Series 3 consists of 107 record books spanning 1781 to 1936. The bulk of these records (70 books) are indexes to deeds and marriages. There are also 13 volumes of Naturalization records, as well as survey, land, deed, and estate books. There are two minute books of private organizations, the Humane Society (item 254, 1900-1902) and the Order of the Sons of Temperance (262, 1851-1857). Except for the Naturalization records and items 271, 194, 207, 208, 246, and 343, the remainder of the books have been filmed.

Series 3-Record Books, consists of 18 original copies of record books. Apart from court records, there are a few private records of local businesses, including mining companies, a sawmill, and a steam ship. Item 91, a private ledger of a steamboat, has water damage, and the writing is very faint.

Series 3 contains the original court record books for Brooke County as well as some private account books that were in the court's possession, likely used as exhibitions in cases. All of the record books except for an account book of John Connell's inventories (item 145-A) have been microfilmed. The books include records of court proceedings, including dockets, executions, orders and pleas, as well as public records. Public records include land and property, deeds, overseers of the poor, and a register of Free Black people in the county.

This series contains reports, resolutions, and committee records relating to the Faculty Assembly. Previously part of the College Papers Collection, UA 14.

Series 1 and 2 document the specific subjects of the Keystone Bank and John Nash respectively. Series 3 covers a wide range of subject matter relating to Mercer and McDowell Counties including community events; people in and connected to the area; and the history of local communities, including extensive coverage of the African American community and Bluefield State College among other topics. Formats for additional subjects include original newspaper clippings and copies from microfilm, handwritten interviews and story notes, correspondence, and original and facsimiles of research materials. Archer's research materials and reporting on various topics are scattered throughout the collection (Boxes 1-3, 5-9, 14, 17-20, 22-23).

Includes notebooks of principals, which contain pupil lists, years attended, and name of parent or guardian (1827-1879 and undated). Also includes newspaper clippings on the history of Old Lewisburg Academy and other area schools. This series includes 27 account books, many of which relate to north-central West Virginia businesses. These ledgers document general stores, a Jewish-owned clothing store in Richwood, the activities of an itinerant Methodist minister in the mining villages of north-central West Virginia, grocery stores and meat markets, a glass manufacturer, and other businesses.
