The Virginia Elections Collection contains United States polls and ballots collected from Amelia County, Virginia, from 1804, 1808, and 1865. Some of the material pertains to election polls in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. One of these is the ballot for an amendment to the Virginia Constitution, allowing former Confederate government officials to serve in the Virginia government.

This collection of Elisha Roberts and other enslavers holders documents (1822-1860; 0.03 cubic feet) consists of inventories, bill of sales, and appraisal lists of household items including enslaved people of Elisha Roberts, Gotlif Schmidt, James Broddus, Robert Allen Givens, John Cornelison, Jr., Francis Carter, Archibal Brooks, Henry Carpenter, Lewis Campbell, John Bentley, and Talton Taylor.

Coat of Arms and Great Seal: A pamphlet, "The Great Seal of Virginia" submitted to the General Assembly on February 20, 1930. Letter to Dr. Earl Gregg Swem and a letter to Dr. John E. Pomfret, President of the College of William and Mary, from E.M. Simon who designed a pre-revolutionary Coat of Arms and Seal for Colonial Williamsburg, found on the title page of the Frenchman's Map. A copy of the engraving is included. 1945. Gravesites of Distinguished Virginians: Copy of a typed report. Undated, but probably 1930's or 40's. Historical Pageants: Two copies of the official program from the Virginia Historical Pageant held in Richmond, VA, from May 22-28, 1922. Passes to military events. 1942 and 1943. Photographs of Virginia Houses: Booklet, "Colonial Homes on the Historic James" with photographs and a group of 27 photographs of houses in Virginia, with a typed list of the history of each house, sent in 1938 to Earl Gregg Swem. Tidewater Area: Map of Colonial Tidewater Virginia with a chart that shows the changing boundary lines of the counties in the 1700's. Made by William Buckner McGroarty. Sent to Earl Gregg Swem in 1947. Handwritten and typed notes by Edward W. Dodd, mainly about the Tidewater area of Virginia in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Virginia Writer's Project: Copies of two plays. "James Monroe of Virginia", sponsored by The Monroe Birthplace and Monument Association and State Board of Education in 1940 and "Let Freedom Ring, A Drama of Democracy" sponsored by the Hopewell Chamber of Commerce in 1941.

Most items relate to their period of service and reflect gubernatorial duties of appointment, correspondence with governors of other states and national officials, and responses to invitations and questions.

Virginia Land and Company Share Certificates 0.01 Linear Feet

Three company shares issued to Samuel Myers of Richmond Virginia spanning the years 1811-1836. The stock shares are for the Kennebec Bridge, Newburyport Turnpike Corporation, and the Bank of Virginia. One share sold to A. L. Warner of the Richmond Library Company in March of 1844, and one stock certificate from the Virginia Land and Loan Company sold to W. S. Harris 15 April 1891.

This collection contains nineteenth century financial documents, including tax records for various Virginia residents. Also included are several hand-written receipts mentioning the sale or labor of enslaved people, including a Black child named Peter and a Black man named Bob.
