University of Virginia Medical Illustrations collection, 1760/1969, bulk 0 7 boxes (7 containers)

The collection comprises mostly of anatomical illustrations of humans and animals by professional medical illustrators and medical practioners, but there is a good number of caricatures. Many of the images depict 20th century surgical prodedures; there are also physiological illustrations included in the collection. Most items are drawn in pencil on illustration paper with cardboard backing. In addition, there are some drawings in notepads and on tracing paper.

Upshur Family Papers, 1662/1936 18.00 Linear Feet

Papers, 1622-1936, of the Upshur family of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Chiefly the genealogical correspondence and notes of Thomas Teackle Upshur (d. 1910) who was interested in the local history of Northampton and Accomack counties, Va. and in the genealogies of Eastern Shore families. Includes three manuscript volumes (indexed) called "Genealogies of the Kingdom of Accomack." The family papers of the Upshur family includes correspondence, 1786-1910, unpublished writings, accounts, and legal documents. The genealogical notes are arranged by family. The correspondence is arranged chronologically and the surnames of correspondents are given.

Urbain Babier, Philadelphia, to Bushrod Washington, 1822 1 pages Box 1, Folder 1

Autograph letter signed "Urbain Babier" with integral address panel. Babier writes in a mixture of French and English to Bushrod admonishing him for being a slave holder. Docketed by Bushrod on verso "anonymous and... impertinent."
