This collection embraces business letters, bills, receipts, notes, orders, checks, and personal correspondence of John Rogers, who was a pioneer merchant and iron manufacturer in Monongalia County, Virginia, during the first half of the nineteenth century.

Johnston family
Genealogical information concerning the Johnston family of Augusta, Greenbrier, and Ritchie counties (West) Virginia, ca. 1740-1850. Three typed pages explain the family's history and the search for information about it. The typescript also includes an explanation of eleven appended items concerning the family history: photo static copies of family bible pages, one photograph, a deed, a land grant, and pages from published books.

Beall, John William (1721-1814)
Photocopy of a page from a 1751 London book of maps on which in 1779, John William Beall listed his scholars in a short term subscription school. The school was taught in a cabin at the mouth of Buffalo Creek (Buffalo Station) near Fairmont. This is thought to have been the first school taught in what is now West Virginia west of the Allegheny Mountains. There is also a letter from Glenn D. Lough giving information on the class list.

County court records consisting primarily of court case papers, related court record books (dockets, execution books, fee books, witness books, etc.), and public records concerning a variety of topics including land records, schools, and marriages. There are also a few private account books relating to various local industries, including salt, mining, sawmills, steamboats, and general stores.
