Thomas Jefferson Architectural Drawings 2.2 Cubic Feet

This series primarily consists of architectural studies on structures found at the University of Virginia, at Thomas Jefferson's private properties like Monticello and Poplar Forest, and studies on structures in Richmond, VA. The studies in the collection contain elevations, plans, and sections, most of which include Jefferson's specifications. These architectural drawings were created mainly by Thomas Jefferson. Some were created or augmented by John Organ, Dr. William Thorton, James Dinsmore, John Neilson, John Hartwell Cocke (possibly), Robert Mills, and Cornelia J. Randolph.

THOMAS JEFFERSON INDEX TO ACCOUNT BOOK.

List of names appearing in Jefferson's account books for the years [1776-1778]. The account book itself (original in the Massachusetts Historical Society, microfilm in the Alderman Library) was written on blank pages of the Virginia Almanac for 1776-1778. [28]

Jefferson, Thomas, 1743-1826

Letters, 1785-1826, written by Thomas Jefferson while serving as a diplomat to France, Secretary of State, Vice-President and President of the United States to William Short. The letters are written from France (Paris, Lyons, Aix en Provence, Nice, Marseilles, Toulouse and Nantes), Amsterdam, Germany (Frankfort on the Main), New York City, Philadelpia, Washington and "Monticello," Albemarle County, Va. One of the subjects covered by the letters is the University of Virginia. Among the items in the collection is "Syllabus of an estimate of the doctrines of Jesus compared with those of others."

Bearer is from Augusta. Recommended to Mrs. Cary as capable of managing weaving and spinning. Has employed her for the estate though Mrs. Randolph desired a woman. Her terms are £30 for managing spiners, instructing weavers who need teaching, and weaving all fine cloth herself. Will be £40 if employed constantly in weaving. Recommends former. Old lady and Betty send love. Asks when chair will be done.

This microfilm version of the Thornton Tayloe Perry Collection held by the Virginia Historical Society contains historical material collected by Perry over a 30 year period. It concentrates upon western Virginia and West Virginia with particular emphasis upon the lower Shenandoah Valley and Jefferson, Berkeley, and Morgan counties of West Virginia. The microfilm was placed in the West Virginia Collection by the Virginia Historical Society under provisions of a National Historical Publications and Records Commission grant.
