A collection of United States, Confederate States, Continental, and Colonial currency. Also includes the state currencies of Alabama, Georgia, Delaware, and Virginia; the currency of Augusta County, and the city of Portsmouth, Va.; bank notes from Washington, D.C.; Clarksburg, Weston, and Charleston, W. Va.; Augusta, Norfolk, and Richmond, Va.; Baltimore, Maryland; Charleston, S.C.; and Connecticut, Ohio, and PA. Some of the notes are counterfeit, or forgeries. Also includes one large copper one cent piece 1841 U.S. Currency bearing the inscription "Millions For Defense, Not One Cent for Tribute". David A. Bucher Papers 1.50 Linear Feet

Papers, 1769-1912, including letters, 1861-1874, written to David A. Bucher, dentist of Shade Gap, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and later, of Bridgewater, Rockingham County, Virginia. The letters are from relatives and friends in Bridgewater, Virginia, Martinsburg, West Virginia, Hancock, Maryland, Orbisonia, Carlisle, McConnellsburg, Gettysburg and Round Grove, Pennsylvania and Polk City, Iowa. One letter concerns the Battle of Gettysburg.

Davidson Family Papers 0.01 Linear Foot

Originals and copies of papers, 1804-1928, of the Davidson family of Frederick County, Va. Includes correspondence from Samuel Davidson in Sacramento, California to his father, William Davidson and brother David Davidson describing California in the Gold Rush era. The papers also include a deed, 5 April 1773, signed by Thomas Lord Fairfax to Thomas Talbot for land in Frederick County, Va. and genealogical material concerning the Davidson family.

Collection of genealogical information regarding the Davis family of Clark County, Ohio in the late 1700s to the mid 1800s. Beginning with Robert Davis, the collection follows the bloodline through his daughter, Mercy (Davis) Meranda, to where the family eventually moved to in Missouri and later, Indiana.

Dickson Family Papers 2.8 Cubic Feet 2 boxes

Dickson family (Greenbrier County, W. Va.)
The papers consist largely of land, property, and goods transaction receipts and documents of each of the four generations of the Dickson Family, who originally settled in what is now Greenbrier County, Virginia (now West Virginia) in the 1770s. Certificates, oaths, correspondence, deeds, and a diary are included in Joseph Dickson's papers, along with several sale documents for enslaved people from the late 1700s and early 1800s. Much of the land and goods and many of the enslaved people were exchanged with neighbors and others in the area.

Transcripts collected circa 1922 by Earl Gregg Swem in connection with his editing of William Byrd's Description of the Dismal Swamp and a Proposal to Drain the Swamp. Includes land entries made in the Dismal Swamp; petitions, 1763-1785, to the Governor and Council; and papers, 1764-1785, of George Washington concerning the proposed canal in the Dismal Swamp.

Also includes photocopies of original 18th century documents. Material covers the years 1754-2002.

Correspondence of the Varner and Darrah families. Folder 1 includes original manuscript letters to and from members of the two families (1870-1884). Folder 2 includes manuscript genealogical information from the Varner family bible, and typed transcripts of the papers of the Varner family of Monongalia County, West Virginia, dating from 1775 to 1918, which includes correspondence with the Darrahs.
