The personal papers of Mills E. Godwin, Jr., dating from 1947 to 1978, consist of 24 boxes of correspondence, 1,100 copies of speeches, schedules and appointments. Also included are 40 scrapbooks of news clippings and photographs, 159 citations and plaques, and one box of audiovisual materials, all of which pertain largely to Godwin's personal involvement in the government, political life, activities, organizations and institutions of Virginia during the 30-year period. The majority of the items comprising this collection were microfilmed by the Virginia State Library.

This file includes a document of share in the Goodman Gold and Silver Mining Company, as well as the manuscript entitled "Rockbridge County Furnaces," which includes historical information and photographs concerning local furnaces.

This collection consists of letters written by and addressed to Thomas Jefferson, as well as architectural plans and studies that were created or endorsed by Jefferson, created by other individuals associated with him, deeds, plats, and maps, some of which pertain to the subjects of the architectural studies, and other miscellaneous materials.

Includes personal correspondence and correspondence relating to American Historical Association, Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, Colonial Williamsburg, Cooperative Education Commission of Virginia, Equal Suffrage League of Virginia, Jamestown Exposition, New York Southern Society, Sons of the Revolution, Virginia Board of Education, Virginia Historical Society, Virginia Mechanics Institute, Wakefield National Memorial Association, Yorktown Sesquicentennial, and Virginia State Library Board; manuscript volumes of poetry; and scrapbooks of newspaper clippings.

The Low Moor Iron Company papers consist of approximately 280 four-inch Hollinger archives boxes (ca. 95 linear feet) of records, ca. 1885-1927, and some 1200 bound volumes of the company's accounting records, 1873-1927, of this iron producing company located in Low Moor (four miles southwest of Clifton Forge), Alleghany County, Virginia.
