Includes printed and manuscript material written in Spanish and originating from Spain and Spanish-speaking countries in North America and South America. Papers of the Coleman, Davis and Pannill families of Orange and Culpeper counties, Va. Includes correspondence, 1827-1838, of William Davis with Peter F. Armstead, Linn Banks and William B. Wallace concerning the collection of money owed by Wallace. The papers include Davis's accounts and papers relating to his estate. There are also land records concerning Orange County, Va. and leases from Alexander Spotswood (1676-1740) and Alexander Spotswood (ca. 1746-1818.) Collection includes Sale family Bible which includes records of the Davis family, Grasty family, and Sale family.

Contains three Commissions of the Peace of Sussex County, Virginia signed by Robert Dinwiddie, Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and William Nelson, Governor of Virginia. The documents were signed under the reign of King George II and King George III of England and contain the names of several men selected to be Justices of the Peace. Two of the documents contains the original seal.

Transcripts collected circa 1922 by Earl Gregg Swem in connection with his editing of William Byrd's Description of the Dismal Swamp and a Proposal to Drain the Swamp. Includes land entries made in the Dismal Swamp; petitions, 1763-1785, to the Governor and Council; and papers, 1764-1785, of George Washington concerning the proposed canal in the Dismal Swamp.

A manuscript copy and two typed copies of the will of William Parsons, Randolph County, dated January 11, 1828. Two typed copies of information on the families of Philip Doddridge (1773-1832) and John Doddridge (1745-1791).

Letters and papers of the Earls of Dunmore, a branch of the Murray family of Scotland. All of the papers, except eleven items relating to Virginia, 1770, 1776 are photocopies. The early papers relate to lands in Brabant (a province of the Netherlands) inherited from the 7th Earl of Derby and his wife, and to the role of Charles Murray, 1st Earl of Dunmore (1661- 1710) as Master of the Horse to Queen Mary, the wife of James II.

Papers collected by Earl Gregg Swem concerning the genealogies of his family and the family of his wife Lilia Hansbrough Swem. Families on which there is data include Swem (Swaim), Luce, Gregg, Wright, Farish and Smith. Includes written histories, documents, genealogical charts, correspondence, and newspaper clippings.
