Royal Court of Guernsey contracts by Sir Edmund Andros or representative, both written in French. May 20, 1675 rent and inheritance of third party contract signed by Charles Andros, Lieut. of Edmund Andros, Lt. Gov. of New York and Bailiff of Guernsey and Lord of Sausmares, written on vellum with attached seal. Contract of third parties, addressed to Eleazar Le Marchant, Lieut of Edmund Andros, Lord of Sausmares, Lieut. Governor and Bailiff of Guernsey for Queen Anne, dated October 18, 1706, signed by Eleazar LeMarchant, Thomas De Lisle and Hellier Bonamy with the seal of the Bailiwick of the Island of Guernsey and reverse coat of arms of individual, probably from a signet ring, written on vellum. Includes a November 11, 1929 letter from Edith Carey, the donor, with some history of Sir Edmund Andros, Guernsey, and a list of possible buildings that might have an association with the college. Includes a postcard of St. Martin's Church, Guernsey where Andros supposedly worshipped.

Collection of photocopied correspondence and documents relating to William Short (1759-1849).

Two legal documents from members of the Stanford family of Abbotts Salford, located in the county of Warwickshire, England. Includes an indenture, 1639, made between John Stanford and William Courteen for a piece of land called Honyham. The indenture was for a period of 7 years. The collection also contains a legal patent for William Stanford dated 1720. Documents are fragile.

Original newspapers documenting historical events. Topics include deceased Presidents and political events of the United States, space flight, and the American Civil War, among others. Some of the newspapers were published in West Virginia; some are from the United Kingdom. Abbreviations used in the contents list includes F/P (front page), B/P (back page), and FSO (front section only).

Original and photostats of a plot of land surveyed by Robert Beverley in June 1678, showing the land sold by Secretary [Thomas] Ludwell to Col. Thomas Ballard. This land was subsequently sold by Ballard to the College of William & Mary. This plat is the earliest record of campus lands.

Collection of documents, 1655-1791, most of which relate to King William III and Queen Mary II of England. Includes correspondence of and warrants signed by William III; letter of Mary II; documents signed by Sir Christopher Wren; documents written by Samuel Pepys; order signed by James II; letter of Leopold, Emperor of Germany; engravings of William III; and a printed announcement of the ascension of William and Mary to the throne of England. Some documents are in French and Latin but some include transcriptions and translations. The Pepys documents which are in shorthand include transcriptions. Some documents available in transcript. The collection was a gift of Thomas G. Pullen and Louise Rowe Pullen, and purchases from various sources.

The Thruston family commonplace book (1604-1925; 0.03 cubic feet) documents the family history of the Thruston family of Bristol and Virginia, with early records concerning Martin's Hundred, Virginia, a plantation on the north shore of the James River, first settled in 1638. The manuscript opens with an "Epistle dedicatory" dated 25 October 1628 by Abell Louering, addressed to Robert Rogers, Esq., whose wife was present at the baptism of John Thruston's son John. The manuscript then passes to John Thruston, Chamberlain of Bristol (1606-1675), son of Malachais Thurston of Wellington. Thurston had 16 children with his first wife, Thomasine Rich. Their various births, deaths, and marriages are recorded here, including the birth of son Edward in 1638. Dr. Edward Thurston began writing in the book in 1666, and his entries contain the first reference to Virginia in the manuscript.

Papers, primarily 1770-1907, of the Tucker and Coleman families of Williamsburg, Winchester, Lexington, Staunton and Richmond, including papers of: St. George Tucker (1752-1827), Nathaniel Beverley Tucker (1784-1851), Henry St. George Tucker (1780-1848), Ann Frances Bland (Tucker) Coalter (1779-1813), John Coalter (1769-1838), and John Randolph of Roanoke (commonplace book is in box 64B), as well as other family members.
