Contains correspondence from constituents to Governor George Allen and an attached copy of the response from the Governor or the appropriate Secretary or state department. The Office of Constituent Affairs handled the governor's constituent correspondence by directing the mail to the appropriate official(s) for response. The general correspondence found here contains invitations, requests for assistance, and inquiries about the Governor's stance on certain policy issues. Also included are letters from federal and state agencies, local government officials, Virginia General Assembly members, members of the U.S. Congress, and others, including the U.S. President, governors of other states and ambassadors. Files containing letters related to particular subjects such as the execution of Joseph O'Dell, opposition to a horse racing track in New Kent County, and those containing letters from a group of habitual writers can be found at the end of the general correspondence.

Contains records related to functions held at the Executive Mansion as well as events supported and/or attended by First Lady Susan Allen. The first series documents events at the Mansion, while the remaining three series document Mrs. Allen's activities throughout the Commonwealth. Mrs. Allen supported many causes including those related to children, breast cancer awareness, and tourism.

Contains files related to the activities of Governor George F. Allen's Executive Office maintained by Governor Allen's Chief of Staff, Jay Timmons. Many of the files pertain to cabinet secretariats, agencies, offices, and commissions. Also included are reports, correspondence, and subject files related to specific administration issues and events, as well as photographs of the Executive Office area and many of Governor Allen's staff members.

Contains files which document the functions of the Virginia Liaison Office (VLO) in Washington, D.C. Files include testimonies of Virginia officials before the federal government, and cover topics such as Medicaid, the devolution of the Employment Security System, and education policy. Also included are briefing packets from all meetings of the National Governors' Association attended by Governor Allen and/or members of the Liaison Office.

Contains correspondence, reports, speeches, minutes, and clippings related to various policies with which the Allen administration was concerned. The topics covered include federalism, federal government interference in Virginia affairs, education policies, the use of inmate labor, the proposed Walt Disney theme park in Prince William County, Virginia, and the Virginia-Israel Partnership. Also included are a variety of uncategorized files related to transportation issues, community development, environmental policy, the budget, and taxation.

Contains news summaries, photographs, press releases, publications, proclamations and certificates of recognition, speeches, and other files related to the activities of Governor George F. Allen's Press Office. The Press Office was responsible for keeping the media and the general public informed of Governor Allen's appearances, speech writing, issuing proclamations, and maintaining the Governor's photograph collection. The Press Office also collected information related to the Governor, such as newspaper clippings and magazine articles.

Contains the daily schedules of Governor George F. Allen and his wife, First Lady of Virginia, Susan Allen.

Contains briefing records that include information on cabinet secretariats, offices, and agencies that were used to brief Governor-elect James S. Gilmore and his staff before Governor Gilmore took office in January 1998. The records include budgetary and secretarial documents, as well as memoranda and correspondence.

Contains correspondence, memoranda, proposals, reports, and other documents created and maintained by Governor George Allen as his "working papers." The working papers relate to specific activities, issues, and policies that were of particular interest to Governor Allen and members of his administration. Often the topics covered in the working papers were hot-button issues or policies that received a significant amount of press and attention. Almost half of the files pertain to the Opportunity Virginia economic initiative, while the other files contain information on a variety of issues arranged by appropriate secretariat.
