Sussex County (Va.) Board of Supervisors Records, 1875-1929, consist of County Commissioners General Fund Ledger (includes road and school funds ledger); Road Book; Road Fund Ledger; Road Order Book; Rough Minute Books; General, School, and Roads Fund Ledger; and Supervisors' Warrants.

Sussex County (Va.) Commission of Oyer and Terminer for the Trial of Sinner, a Negro Slave, Sussex County, 1754 May 22. The document provides for the establishment of a commission to try a slave accused of murder. The slave was the property of John Leath of Sussex County. He was accused of insurrection and plotting and conspiring the murder of Robin, a slave owned by John Smith of Sussex County.

Deed Books, 1754-1786, of Sussex County Court. The deed books record the name of the grantor and grantee, the residence of both individuals and the description of property being sold or transferred. Deed Book C contains land titles. The volumes have indexes which contains the first and last names of both parties. It is arranged alphabetically from A-Z.

Sussex County (Va.) Fiduciary Records, 1754-1914, include miscellaneous records filed in a local court by trustees, administrators, executors, guardians, and committees that related to the performance of their duties managing a person's estate. These records typically include the following; bonds, appraisements, audits, inventories, accounts, estate divisions, settlements, dowery records, etc. Information related to enslaved people are commonly found in these records.

Sussex County (Va.) Land Records, 1754-1921, consist of Deed Books, Deed Registers, Deeds, General Deed Index, Land Books, Land Titles and Deeds Book, Oversized Unrecorded Deeds, Processioning Districts Drawn, Maps, Plats, Photographs, and Surveyor Field Notes.

Sussex County (Va.) Lists of Tithables, 1777, 1779, 1780, and 1782. Consists of a photostat images of the list of tithable heads of household in the county for the years 1777, 1779, 1780, and 1782.

Sussex County (Va.) Marriage register, 1754-1858 (bulk 1754-1850), is essentially divided into two sections. The first section covering pages 1-255, 1754-1850, records the date of the marriage bond, the names of both parties, the names of the parents or guardians present and the names of the security or witnesses in attendance. There are two undated marriage bonds found on page 255. Of special note, there are numerous entries (81 total) of marriages between "free blacks" or "free persons of color"--dating from 1793-1850.

Sussex County (Va.) Miscellaneous Records, 1872-1893, consist of a Mechanic's Lien Record and General Indexes to Deeds, Wills, and Orders.

Sussex County (Va.) Records, 1909-1948, consist of the following series: Tax and Fiscal Records, 1909-1948, School Records, 1946 and Miscellaneous Records--an American flag. All records are unprocessed.

Sussex County (Va.) Register of Convicts, 1871-1932, is a comprehensive register of "every person convicted in the County Court or other Court of Record of Henrico County, of Felony, or other infamous offence." Based on a form, the listings of each conviction include the individual's name in full and any aliases, the present and last known residence of the accused, the color or race of the individual (including white, black, yellow and mulatto), the individual's height, eye color, hair color and any identifying marks, the apparent or known age of the accused, his or her occupation, the offence, the court in which convicted, the date of conviction and page of record and whether the judgment was reversed or pardon granted and date thereof. The volume has an internal index. The index is arranged by the surname of the individual (A-Y) as it appears in the volume.
