The volume is divided by precincts: Lexington, Hartsook Shop, Glasgow, Glenwood, Natural Bridge, Oak Bank, Broad Creek, Hamilton's School House, Collierstown, Montgomery, Big Spring, Smith's Mill, Rockbridge Baths, Brownsburg, Flumen, Goshen, Kennedy's Mill, Timber Ridge, Riverside, Fairfield, Raphine, and Campbell's Mill, and within each precinct on the basis of color. Information found in the volume includes date of registration; number of registered voter; name of registered voter; date of birth; age; occupation; residence; length of residence in state, county, and precinct; whether exempt from poll tax; if naturalized, and if so, date of papers and by what court issued; if transferred from another precinct, and if so, when and to what precinct.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Slave Patrol Appointment, May 7, 1861. Consists of a document appointing William Allison, Joseph Saville, and William S. Newcomer to patrol at least once a week "all negro quarters" and other places suspected of harboring "unlawful assemblages of slaves as may stroll from one plantation to another."

Rockbridge County (Va.) Superintendent of the Poor Ledger is one volume dated 1875-1888. It contains the records of money received and spent by Charles J. Brawley and James W. Alexander who served as Superintendents of the Poor during this period. These records dealt with the Poor House, the Poor Farm, as well as the Poor Levy. It includes the records of services provided by the Overseers of the Poor for the Natural Bridge, Buffalo, Kerr's Creek, West Creek, South River, Lexington, and Walker's Creek Overseers of the Poor Districts. It also includes the records of Dr. J. McD. Taylor, Physician of the Poor House.

Rockbridge County (Va.) Will of Hobson Johns was probated on 1 June 1863. In his will, Johns leaves his property in Danville, Va., to his wife's niece Mary Louisa Yancy. To his niece Emma Clark Burroughs, Johns left his female slave Lydia on the condition that she pay Lydia six dollars at the commencement of every year as a reward for her attention to his wife during her last illness. To his nephew Hobson Clark, Johns left a tract of land located in Botetourt County and the following slaves: Daniel and his wife Lucy, Sam and his wife Parthenia, and Nelly. The balance of the estate was divided between Johns's nieces -- Nancy Haden, Mary B. Pannill, Martha Clark, and Susan Clark. Johns also left the provision that if any slaves need be sold that the slaves would have the right to select their new master.
