Powhatan County (Va.) Ministers' Returns Register, 1820-1850, was a volume used by the county clerk in the mid-nineteenth century to record the returns made by individual ministers of marriages performed within the county. The majority of returns were in the form of lists which record the date of the marriage and names of both parties. In the process of preparing and sending the returns, the name of the minister and the minister's denomination were often included.

Powhatan County (Va.) Organization Records, 1780-1925, includes a list of officers with the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for Indians and Colored People in Virginia, 1902, 1903, 1907, 1909 and 1911, and other organization records which typically consist of appointments of trustees, minutes, and miscellaneous records of religious organizations, fraternal organizations, independent associations, and cooperatives.

Powhatan County (Va.) Records, 1797-1902, consists of records from the following series: Bonds/Commissions/Oaths, Court Records, Fiduciary Records, Overseers of the Poor Records, Tax snd Fiscal Records, and Wills. The documents record names of slaves and free African Americans. Also included are Naturalization Records dated 1902.

Powhatan County (Va.) Records, circa 1780-1923, consist of the following series: Miscellaneous Records, Fiduciary Records, Bonds/Commissions/Oaths, Court Records (subfield series include Judgments, Criminal Records, Jury Records, Clerks' Records, Personal Documentation and Court Finance), Tax and Fiscal Records, Election Records, County Administrative Records (subfield series include Overseers of the Poor Records, Board of Supervisors Records, School Board Records and Sheriff's Records), Marriage Records and Vital Statistics, Business Records, Land Records, Wills, Organization Records and School Records.

Powhatan County (Va.) Registers of Free Negroes and Mulattoes, 1800-1865 are comprised of two volumes, one for the years 1800 to 1820 and one for the years 1820-1865. The registers record the registration number, age, name, color, stature, marks or scars, and in what court the person was emancipated or whether the person was born free. Some clerks recorded additional information, not required by law. The first volume also includes miscellaneous court notes and orders interspersed with the free negro registrations; it is unpaged and does not include an index. The second volume is 112 pages and includes an index.

Powhatan County (Va.) Slave Patrol Appointments, 1794-1866. Slave Patrol Appointments contain appointments, orders and returns for payment of men appointed to patrol for runaways and criminal activity among the enslaved population. The patrol returns list the names of patrollers, dates and/or hours served on the slave patrol, and occasionally the amount of money to be paid. The captain of the patrol is usually indicated. The patrol orders and appointments are directives by the justice of the peace for specifically named men to patrol the county for a specific amount of time.

Powhatan County (Va.) Taxes Collected in Macon Township, 1871 Aug., is a three page recordation of taxes collectd by the treasurer of Macon Township. Recorded are the name of taxpayer, by whom paid, when paid, and amount of state tax, county levy, and county school fund paid. The names are listed in alphabetical order. Following the initial list are several additional names and a total of the taxes collected.

Powhatan County (Va.) Township Records, 1870, consist of 2 pages of commissioners' reports on the division of the county into three townships (Macon, Spencer, and Huguenot) with the boundaries for each and the appointment of registrars. The commissioners and surveyors are also named and report how many days they were engaged in the business.

Powhatan County (Va.) Wills, 1777-1903, record the deceased's plan for how his or her estate was to be divided among his or her heirs following his or her death. Information commonly recorded in wills include the name of the deceased, also referred as the testator; names of heirs; a listing of real and personal property (including slaves) and how it was to be divided among the heirs; names of individuals who were to be the will's executors; the date will was written; and the date will was recorded at the court house. The collection also includes wills not recorded in will books.
