This collection contains material personally collected by College of William and Mary President Alvin Duke Chandler and his wife, Louise Michaels Chandler. The collection consists of photographs, diplomas, news clippings, and correspondence of the Chandlers. Among the topics in the collection are documents pertaining to the Inauguration of Alvin Duke Chandler as President of the College of William and Mary, the Jamestown Foundation, visits to Williamsburg by dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, photographs of various activities on campus, the associated branches of William and Mary, and material from other family members including father, Julian Alvin Carroll Chandler, and brother Herbert Chandler. One of the several photographs of notable visitors to William and Mary is a color photograph of Winston Churchill at a banquet in the Wren Building during Churchill's 1955 visit. Colonial Williamsburg presented Churchill with a bell.

This collection contains materials dated 1784-1934. It includes correspondence, legal papers, and accounts, chiefly 1830-1892, of Benjamin S. Ewell, professor at the U.S. Military Academy, Hampden-Sydney College, Washington and Lee College, and the College of William and Mary (which he served as acting president, 1848-1849, and president, 1854-1888). Letters from Ewell during the Civil War when he was assistant adjutant-general to Gen. Joseph E. Johnston are included as well. Among the correspondents are members of the Tyler, Ewell, Campbell, and Brown families of Virginia and Tennessee. The collection also contains the memorandum book on the Ewell family by Elizabeth S. Ewell.

The records of the Board of Visitors of the College of William and Mary includes meeting minutes, financial reports, photographs, agendas, matriculation books, correspondence, material from Board of Visitors Rectors Oscar L. Shewmake and Roy Harvey Chappell, Jr., publications, and audio recordings of meetings from 1961-1999.

This collection includes programs, speeches, invitations, scrolls, and announcements for the College of William and Mary's Charter Day ceremony held each February. Also contains a 1939 handwritten copy of the Royal Proclamation of 1700, as well as two typescript copies. The original Royal Proclamation is housed at the Public Records Office in London.

This collection, Acc. 1980.121, consists of 1 box of biographical material, photostats and transcripts of correspondence, and discourses, including one on the death of George Washington. Contains a letter, photostats of letters, a photograph of a portrait, and biographical information about John Augustine Smith, President of the College of William & Mary from 1814 to 1826. Includes a letter, 20 December 1815, from John Augustine Smith of Williamsburg, Va., to Richard Bland Lee of Washington, D.C. There are also photostats of letters, 1818-1825, of John Augustine Smith. Finally, there is a photograph of a portrait and biographical material collected by librarians at the College of William & Mary.

Series 1 (Acc. 1980.123): One box containing biographical material; engravings; lectures; addresses; publications; an article about the Gardiner Manor in New York; Tyler's application for the William and Mary presidency; testimonials; a calling card; correspondence, including a letter to Mrs. Alex S. Porter (circa 1917), possibly referring to Bound Volume no. 13.

This collection includes addresses and communications from presidents to members of the College of William and Mary community. Office records from all presidents from 1888 to the present are also described in other finding aids in this database. Scattered records are also available for presidents prior to 1888.
