This collection contains a copy of one bound, typed volume of Sam Houston's letters dated 1815-1860, including those housed in the University of Texas Archives, the Sam Houston Normal Institute, and the collection of John H. Gundlach in St. Louis, Missouri. They cover the topics of Houston's private life, his views on political affairs, and his involvement in political and military life, shown through correspondence with various politicians, generals, and his wife and friends. There is also a single letter, dated April 7, 1846, from Sam Houston in Washington, D. C. to D. Desney(?) in Cincinnati acknowledging a favor 'during our struggle for freedom.'
