Henry County (Va.) Chancery Causes, 1783-1931 (bulk 1870-1916), consists of cases concerning issues of equity brought largely by residents of the county and filed in the circuit court. These cases often involve the following actions: divisions of estates or land, disputes over wills, disputes regarding contracts, debt, divorce, and business disputes. Other less prevalent issues include freedom suits, permissions to sell property, and disputes concerning trespass. Predominant documents found in these chancery causes include bills (documents the plaintiff's complaint), answers (defendant's response to the plaintiff's complaint), decrees (court's decision), depositions, affidavits, correspondence, lists of heirs, deeds, plats, wills, records involving enslaved individuals, business records or vital statistics.

Recorded are the names of pupils, names of their parents, age, date entered school, date left school, daily attendance, subjects studied, and remarks related to dates of school visits by the school commissioner. Some of the volumes state who the teacher and the school commissioner are. Some of the volumes give occasional statistical statements per school term about numbers of students and numbers of days attended.

Henry County (Va.) List of subscribers for building a new Baptist church near Leatherwood Store, undated. The record contains the names of 66 people who pledged to help pay for construction of a new Baptist church, and a list of articles concerning the planned building. The articles stipulate that the church should be a frame construction, 52 feet by 32 feet, and that it should be open to use by both parties to a schism among local Baptists, i.e., the Old Leatherwood Baptist Church and the Missionary Baptist Church.
