One page entitled "Memorandum of the roads and stages from Richmond to Lexington Kentucky, from Richmond to Hopkins." 1869 broadside for the sale of 900 acres on Skiff's Creek in Warwick, State of Virginia by Ro. A. Bright, Williamsburg. August 25, 1909 flyer for "Excursion from Peninsula District Stations to Buckroe Beach." Script for the placement of objects during scenes for "The Patriots Properties." Undated. Murphy Pledge card stating "I, the undersigned, do Pledge my word and honor, God Helping Me, to abstain from ALL intoxicating Liquors, as a Beverage, and that I will, by all honorable means, encourage others to abstain." Undated. Serrated tabs with alphabet for making index tabs.

Financial material related to the estate of Peyton Southall. [Robert and Helen Anderson were the guardians of Helen Matilda Southall]. 1812-1825. Division of the 19 slaves of Peyton Southall. Names listed. September 18, 1826. Deed between Helen M. Southall and George W. Southall for 1509 1/2 acres in Warwick County, deeded to Peyton Southall by his father, James B. Southall. July 7, 1848. Deed between Robert and Helen M. Anderson and George W. Southall for land called "Oaklandquot; in Warwick County...devised to Helen M. Southall by Peyton Southall by her former husband. August 18, 1851. Letter offering to buy the land in Kentucky willed to Peyton Southall by his father, James B. Southall. 1832.

Series 4: Southall and Bright Family Papers, 1798/1887

This addition to the Southall Papers was found in the attic of the Bright House (now part of William and Mary's Alumni House) in 1947. The material pertains to the Southall and Bright families, with some material by the related families of Robert Anderson and Alexander MacCauley. Correspondence between Alexander and Elizabeth MacCaulay, parents of Helen Maxwell MacCaulay who was married first to Peyton Southall, then to Robert Anderson. Personal and business accounts of Robert Anderson. Robert Anderson was the executor of the estate of George W. Southall, son of Helen and Peyton Southall (1810-1851) and some of his accounts are filed with George Washington Southall's estate papers. Financial papers of Samuel Bright and his son, Robert Anderson Bright. Samuel Bright was the husband of Elianna Maria Jerdone Southall. Legal and financial papers of the Southall Family. Material on the estates of various members of the Anderson and Southall families, particularly George Washington Southall who died in 1851 and whose estate was contested. Includes Addition 1992.47b.

Southall Family

Papers of the Southall family of Williamsburg, Va. including correspondence, 1828-1830, of Peyton Alexander Southall but mostly comprised of the legal correspondence, 1831-1851, of George Washington Southall and documents concerning lawsuits and civil proceedings in many Virginia counties and including account books, 1832-1846, of George Washington Southall. Prominent correspondents include Lemuel Jackson Bowden, Richard Coke, John Augustine Deneufville, Thomas Roderick Dew, George Frederick Holmes, James Alexander Seddon, Abel Parker Upshur and Henry Alexander Wise.
