Abstract Or Scope

Print of James Monroe, fourth president of the United States, accompanied by an epitaph written and signed by "John R. [unreadable]." This epitaph lauds the Monroe Doctrine as the "act or policy" that Monroe will be "best remembered by posterity." The print contains a copy of Monroe's signature and a small drawing of Monroe's Oak Hill residence in Loudoun County, Virginia.
