Abstract Or Scope

This 1831 invoice lists seventeen books and one custom box produced by Frederick August Mayo (1785-1853) for the Circuit Superior Court of the Law Chancery of Nicholas County, Virginia. The invoice is addressed on the verso to P. Burne, Esq. Merchant Lewisburg, Greenbrier County, Virginia, with a circular date stamp and the manuscript note "paid." Mayo was the primary bookbinder for Thomas Jefferson during the last decade of his life.
