Albert Gallatin papers (1795-1828; 0.1 cubic feet) contains an oversize tableau chronologique, unnumbered pages of correspondence concerning the Baron de Gallatin, 1777; letter from Albert Gallatin to David Lenox, Washington D.C. 11 letters from Alexander Theroux to Judy Barnes. Barnes, whose name is now Judith Music, describes the letters as such: "We had met in 1972 when he was on the faculty of Longwood College and I was a reference librarian there." The dates of the letters are: 1 Letter (1973), 4 Letters (1974), 2 Letters (1978), 1 Letter (1979), 2 Letters (1980).

This addition to MSS 214, Amélie Rives papers, contains correspondence and literary papers documenting the friendship between Virginia Moore, a poet, biographer, and scholar, and Princess Amélie Rives Troubetzkoy, a novelist, poet, and playwright. Both were prominent literary figures residing in Albemarle County, Virginia, in the early and middle twentieth century, when these letters were authored. The letters date from 1930 to 1945, terminating the year of Rives's death. Much of the collection consists of approximately seventy-seven autograph letters signed from Amelie Rives to Virginia Moore, dating from 1934 to 1945, averaging two to four pages in length. Also included are twenty-three autograph letters from Moore to Rives at Castle Hill, one of which (December 2, 1941) contains a page of holographic poetry. Additional correspondence includes eighteen letters from Frances Shepard of Afton, Virginia, an associate of Rives who worked for her, addressed to Moore, spanning 1938 to 1944. A letter dated July 15, 1945, from Shepard describes Rives's final days and her death. Further correspondence consists of three typed letters signed by Elizabeth Winslow; two typed letters from Max Eastman, a poet, writer, and political activist; letters from Roberta Wellford, a Charlottesville reformer and suffragist; topics also include the death of Pierre Troubetzkoy; and three autograph letters from Lily Morrill, a writer and the owner of Enniscorthy in Albemarle County as well as a list of Rives's books and publications. The collection also contains two typescripts, dated 1983, with corrections, of Virginia Moore's biography and memoir of Amelie Rives.

The papers of Anna Maria (Campbell Hickman) Otis Mead Chalmers (1809-1891) and her family offer a deep look into a 19th century American family with a sharp focus on enslaved and formerly enslaved persons. The collection documents the life of a young, widowed woman, Anna Maria Mead Chalmers, who was the granddaughter of General William Hull (1753-1825). She was a mother of four children and became a businesswoman in Richmond, Virginia. She was a writer, an editor of the Southern Churchmen, an educator and founder of Mrs. Mead's School for Young Ladies, and a director of The Southern Churchmen Cot ("Retreat for the Sick"), a hospital for children. Anna Maria's family enslaved people who are represented in the papers including Othello "Tillo" Freeman (1790's-1860's?). It includes a letter from William written in [1875], who was their carriage driver, and letters about Sam the fiddler, who settled on the farm after escaping harsher enslavement in Louisianna, and Jordan who was described as being hired out in a letter dated September 8, 1841 from Thomas R. Blair.

The Armstead L. Robinson papers(1848-2001; 43 cubic feet) consist of audiotapes; book reviews; census material; computer printouts; conference papers; correspondence; biographical information; instructional material; lectures and speeches; manuscripts and original writings by Robinson, his colleagues and students; maps; memorabilia; microfilm; organizational and professional files; photographs; printed items, and research and topical files. Most of the nineteenth century material is in the form of photocopies.

One letter (autographed/signed) from Arthur Kyle Davis, Jr., to Murat Williams about Davis' review of "Man from the Valley," written by Francis Pickens Miller but edited by Williams.

This collection consists of index cards, in alphabetical order, listing the hundreds of individual authors and manuscripts that form the Clifton Waller Barrett Minor Authors Literary Collection.

MSS 9221 Bennett Taylor papers consist of family correspondence with letters to and from Bennett about education at the University of Virginia, descriptions of United States Civil War battles including the 19th Virginia Regiment Company F, Picketts Divison at 2nd Manassas, a prisoner exchange for Lieutenant Colonel Bennett Taylor from Johnson Island in Lake Erie New York, and family news of descendants of Thomas Jefferson and local Charlottesville families from 1851-1894. Correspondence of Bennett Taylor (1836-1898): 30 letters. In addition to the letters there is a University of Virginia examination report for Bennett Taylor's father John Charles Randolph Taylor, dated July 5, 1860.

Records of the Book Baskets (1995-2018; 1.5 cubic feet) consists of meeting agendas, minutes, reports, news clippings, photographs, thank you letters, information on grants, contributors, and general correspondence. The collection is organized into three series.
