This collection contains items from Donald Black's life and career, spanning from the 1930s up until 2023, ranging from personal memorabilia from his high school years, to his research in graduate school, to drafts of his major published works, to his professional involvement as a leader in sociology and professor at the University of Virginia, including forthright and meaningful correspondence with colleagues and adversaries about sociology theories from academic institutions across the world leading up to his retirement from the University of Virginia in 2016.

Richard L. Williams papers, 1979/2011

The judicial papers of Richard L. Williams document his tenure as a judge in the Eastern District of Virginia. There are also some personal documents. The papers maintain their original organization and include chambers manuals and jury instructions, personal files, clerks' memos, memoranda from the Justice Department, opinions, orders, correspondence, both professional and personal, newspaper clippings, prisoners' correspondence, calendars, and scrapbooks. There are also files related to cases heard by Judge Williams outside the Eastern District of Virginia EDVA. In addition to the physical files, there are also digital files containing bench memoranda from Judge Williams's law clerks, and public documents about his cases, covering the years 1981-1992. Many of these files are copies of documents in the official record, such as opinions and orders.
