The Addison H. Smith papers (1917-1970; 1.6 cubic feet) includes many letters between 1917 and 1919 to Addison Smith's mother and his battlefield diary from 1918, which describes in vivid detail the voyage to Europe and his work as an ambulance driver in France. It also includes his certificates of discharge and service in the United States Army Ambulance Service, photographs, postcards, and newspaper clippings. The majority of the collection dates between the years of 1917 to 1922, and there are also newspaper clippings and legislation letters from the 1970s.

The climate capsule journals are sealed until 2030.

The DeWitt Clinton Gallaher scrapbook and diary transcript (1863-1925; 0.25 cubic feet) consists of a travel diary of New England and Europe (1869-1870), chronology of Civil War battles (October 1863- April 1865) and an album of newspaper clippings on general topics including the University of Virginia and Professor Basil Gildersleeve (1915-1925). The transcript of his travel diary contains vivid descriptions of his travels.

This collection contains a diary from an unknown female student attending Howard University in 1915. It measures 9 X 6 inches, and the pages are hole-punched and tied with a ribbon. The diary includes one tipped-in item and twenty-eight leaves with thirty-three of the pages written on. Most of the diary documents the last few days of May 1915, covering the writer's final days at Howard and reminiscing about her time at the university.

Peyton's diaries cover the Civil War and Reconstruction periods and frequently mention conflicts, specifically the Yankees and how many people were killed on both sides of battlefields. His diary entries describe the Yankees being at his home and near his neighbors in Rapidan, Virginia. Many southern generals are mentioned including General (Stonewall Thomas) Jackson, General (J.E.B.) Stuart, and General (Richard S.) Ewell. There are also references to President (Andrew) Johnson.
