Diary, 1931-1936 of an unidentified young woman, titled "A Book of Personal Reflections of an Impersonal Brat." Geneve (her name is noted in the inside front cover, but her last name is not legible) was a student and 21 years old when she started the diary in 1931. She also notes that she graduated from Bradford Academy , MA '29, Lake Erie College, OH, '33 and Katharine Gibbs School, MA '34.Most entries are reflections on the meaning of life and love and her own emotional state and some are copied citations of well known writers. Also includes what looks like attempts of her own writings and she does say at some point that she would like to be a writer.Geneve wrote in irregular intervals, and though the entries span 6 years, they only take up about 20 pages.

Diary, 1890, of an unidentified woman, who lived in upstate New York with her husband, a teacher and her family. The back of the volume contains household accounts of money earned and spent, as well as a brief list of books read.The daily diary entries are brief and record weather, her and her husband's chores and work, illnesses births and deaths in the community.The following listing of place names and personal names mentioned in the diary was provide by the seller:"Palmer's Falls, Sandy Hill, Round Lake. Diary, 1901 of an African American woman of Portsmouth, Virginia. In brief daily entries she talks about the weather, chores, and social life, trips to town, church, attending meetings, etc. In August 1901 she went to visit churches and schools in Georgia and Alabama, like Atlanta University and Spelman College, both historically black schools. She also mentions teaching music, attending educational meetings in Portsmouth and being elected president of the local YMCA. September 3 is the last entry in this diary. In summary it appears that she has a daughter named Alma who lives with her and attends school. Diary of Elizabeth C. Chaplin of Ipswich, Massachusetts, 1862, that reflects strong political opinions and abolitionist conviction. The following is excerpted for the description of the seller: "She was an active Republican and supporter of President Abraham Lincoln and went to plays and meeting with strong Abolitionists messages. In the very first entry she says, “she took the cars to Boston. My niece Mary Story met with me to see the play called the Octagon, preformed. It represented life in Louisiana & illustrated the Horrors of Slavery.” She receives letters from Ma. Senator Charles Sumner and comments on political events such as the resignation of Secretary of War Simon Cameron, the death of former President John Tyler, and the issuance of the first of two executive orders comprising the Emancipation Proclamation. Many entries are "accounts of won and lost battles and about local soldiers. There is an entry about the Monitor and the Merrimac plus other more famous battles." Her entries focus mainly on Union victories, such as those achieved at Somerset Ky. and Ft. Donelson Tn. She also references Federal successes in Arkansas, Manassas Va., New Bern Nc., and Pittsburg Tn. Her entries track the progress of Gen. McClellan's 1862 Peninsular Campaign through Yorktown Va., Norfolk Va., and Richmond Va. Later entries reference Gen. Jackson's successful Valley campaign, specifically mentioning engagements at Gordonsville Va. and Culpeper Va, and its implications for the larger Peninsular campaign. She also comments on the "excitement" caused in Boston by the repulse of Federal forces under Gen. Pope in the 2d Bull Run campaign. Gen. Lee had now successfully confronted McClellan's threat from the south and Pope's threat from the north. "She did not follow the printed dates, but dated each entry in order as she wrote them. There are 46 pages hand written on both sides with the dates being January 1, 1862 to November 6, 1862. "Following the diary, the last 4 pages were used for the recording of birth and death dates usually found in family bible records, ranging in date from 1855-1887. "Also included are 2 business cards and a receipt for payment for private lesson, signed by Anna L. Kendall in 1896."

Diary, 1965-1969 of Eva M. Mountain (1915-1997) of Dover, Foxcroft, Maine. In brief daily entries she described daily chores and social life of herself and her husband Clifton R. Mountain. She would have been 50 years old at the time and makes references to working part-time and summers. She frequently mentions her son Stuart Rodney Mountain, who seems to have been in college or graduate school at the time. Also mentions local events and from time to time she comments on national and international occurrences .Also included are some loose items from the back of the diary, like notes with people's names and addresses and a few newspaper clippings.

Diaries, 1929, 1931-1934, of the Gilkison family who lived on a farm in Broadbent, Oregon. The mother, Rena Gilkison (1894-1984) wrote most of the entries, others were done by one or several of the children, Donald, Clemmet and Kathleen. The name in the front of the diaries is given as 'Ralph E.' or 'Ralph Eugene Wilkison and family'.The diary labeled '1928' was kept for the year 1929 and corrections to the year and sometimes weekday were made inside the diary.The following description of these Depression era diaries was provided by the seller:"These books are records of daily life, settling a home, farm and ranch in the Southern Oregon coast area. There are accounts of cooking, baking, building, hunting, berry picking, gardening, caring for livestock, traveling by horseback, illnesses, logging, splitting shakes, forest fires, building a school, fishing, celebrating holidays, traveling, shopping and lots of visiting of friends and neighbors. Some of the towns mentioned are, North Bend, Powers, Marshfield, Bandon, Coquille, as well as trips to Bend, Eugene, and Klamath Falls. Some of the names of family friends are Barkley, Lawson, Hillis, Shepard, Dosse, Garret, Smith, Laird, Herman, Derment, and Brown. These depression era diaries contain fascinating references to “hunting steelhead at night”, cooking fish eggs, hiding a button in a birthday cake, finding “bee trees,” etc."
