Collection of certificates, announcements, a program of instruction, graduating exercises programs, an 1895-1896 catalog, and two photographs of the Ryland Institute in Berkley, Virginia. The catalog was printed in 1895 by Fenn and Owen, Printers and Binders, Petersburg, Virginia. It lists the instructors of all departments, board of trustee members, and students for the session of 1894-1895 along with their areas of education. It also lists all of the graduates from the years previous to 1891-1892 session, which was the first year of the institute. Finally, the catalog states the purpose and mission of the school along with rules, management, and course of study. Of the two photographs included in this collection, one is a cabinet card of the Ryland Institute in Berkley and the other is a cabinet card of Ms. Lula Butt, founder of the Ryland School. The items come from Miss Lula Virginia Robertson, student of the school and graduate in 1895. After graduations, Ms. Robertson taught until her marriage to Alphonso Felix Richardson in 1900.
