This collection consists of certificates, citations, commissions, and similar documentation associated with VMI alumni, faculty, staff, or VMI as a whole. The collection does not include VMI diplomas or literary society certificates, which are filed separately.

This collection consists of the personal papers of Elmon T. Gray, including various subject files, photographs, and certificates/commendations. Topics include:

• A scrapbook documenting his politcal career for 1971

This collection consists of items related to Henry J. Foresman, including:

• World War II service records
• Extensive information regarding Foresman and Joyce family genealogy (his maternal ancestors), including Daughters of the American Revolution application material that traces his maternal ancestry to Revolutionary War soldier Dominicus Libby

The collection consists primarily of certificates, honorary degrees, and awards given to John D. deButts during his business career, most dating from the 1960s to 1985. The collection also includes 19 volumes of deButts' speeches (1972-1978). The VMI Museum houses related medals and plaques.

This collection consists of papers (approximately 6 linear feet) that document the career of sportsman and businessman J. Smith Ferebee, including:

• Clippings
• Photographs
• Printed material
• Correspondence that documents Ferebee's widely publicized golf marathon (1938), other sports interests, and his career with the Equitable insurance company
• One photograph album from Ferefee's VMI cadetship

This collection consists of the personal papers of VMI Professor Samuel M. Millner, Jr. The papers include correspondence with his wife Esther Ayres Millner and with classmates, diaries, photographs, and documents.

This collection contains autobiographical and biographical information about the military service of alumni veterans of World War II through the first Gulf War. The alumni responses range in length from short summaries to longer narrative descriptions detailing their service. Some files contain related photographs and documents.

This collection (17 items) consists of the papers of William A. Tidwell, Jr., including:

• Correspondence (dated 1965-1968) from General William C. Westmoreland to Tidwell
• Legion of Merit citation and certificate, awarded for Tidwell's service as Chief of the Reconnaissance and Photographic Intelligence Division in Vietnam (1964-1965)
