This collection consists of documents and photographs held by the Gaillard brothers, Fredrick V. E. Gaillard and Charles C. Gaillard. The material pertaining to Charles C. Gaillard includes a letter written while at Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) training at Plattsburg Barracks, New York. Material relating to Fredrick V. E. Gaillard includes his cadet photograph album, approximately 12 original photographs dating from his service as commanding officer of the 377th infantry Regiment, and related World War II documents.

The James L. Morrison, Jr. memoirs consist of one typescript titled "Reminiscences of a Keydet Cavalryman" by James L. Morrison, Jr. (VMI Class of 1945). Morrison gives a detailed account his years as a cadet participating in an Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) cavalry unit from 1941 to 1943 and 1945 to 1947. Subjects include the operation of the unit at VMI, cadet riding activities, and individuals involved in the programs.

Includes Ledgers, vouchers, accounts, correspondence, and other financial records dating from the opening days of the Institute through the early 20th century. These records are a good source of information for tracing early purchases of goods and services; local Lexington and Rockbridge County businesses/artisans/craftsmen appear in vouchers.

Also contains subject files maintained by COL William Couper, who served as VMI Business Executive from the 1920's-the 1950's. These files, although unrelated to finance, contain information about many historical topics and were maintained in Couper's office.
