Letter from A. Little, Hanover (Va.?) to an unknown person about the number of prisoners he saw on the way to Frederick [Md.?], the exchange of officers, and the prediction by Major [?] Hughes that the fate of New York will soon be decided and General [William] Howe will be in possession of the city. July 26, 1776. Incomplete.

Collection contains various papers from the late 18th to early 19th century. Documents include a warrant, two checks, a U.S. Loan Office certificate, and two colonial notes.

Letter, dated 12 June 1776, by Brigadier General Andrew Lewis to Major General Charles Lee. Lewis was an Irish born veteran of the French and Indian War and Lord Dunmore's War. He was made brigadier general in March 1776 and stationed in Virginia during the Revolutionary War. Major General Charles Lee, was second in command to George Washington of the Continental Army. The letter was written while General Lewis commanded forces to defend the areas of Norfolk and Hampton from Governor Dunmore, and concerns how Lewis plans to defeat Lord Dunmore at the Battle of Gwynn's Island.

One page letter informing Captain Buford the the pension claim for Major Quick that Watts had presented to the executive session of Virginia was rejected because Quick had already accepted a large tract of land for his services in the Revolutionary War.

The collection includes correspondence primarily between 1890-1908, of Flora (Adams) Darling, concerning the founding of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General Society of Daughters of the Revolution, National Society, and the United States Daughters of 1812. Correspondents include Edward William Bok, Jessie Benton Fremont, William Archer Rutherfoord Goodwin, George Frisbie, John Tyler Morgan, William Mahone, Alexander Hamilton Stephens, and Lyon Gardiner Tyler.

Accounts and a signed check, 1832-1842, of Francis Scott Key. Papers also include a letter, 22 August 1779, from Levin Handy, Paramus, N. J. to George Handy, Snow Hill, Md. describing the battle of Paulus Hook, N.J.; and notes, n.d., concerning the Revolutionary War claim of [?] Cazeau.

Includes a couple of originals, copies prepared in the 18th century as well as typed transcripts of letters, 1782, of the Comte de Rochambeau concerning a variety of topics: seizures of Black people enslaved by the State of Virginia; reenforcements for French troops and acknowledgment of thanks of Williamsburg, Va. for French aid; a letter, 6 Sept, 1789, written while Rochambeau was commander of garrison at Strasbourg, France and dealing with riots (original and typed transcript); photostats of Rochambeau's schedule of marches from Providence, R. I. to Williamsburg, Va, 10 June - 26 September 1781; maps of various camps; and a photograph of a portrait of Rochambeau by Larriviere. Materials are primarily in French, but some items have English translation.

John Francis Mercer, Fredericksburg, Virginia to an unknown person where he talks about military debts and how the change in the value of currency will affect planters and their crops, especially those of corn and tobacco. January 20, 1781. Transcript included.
