This collection consists of a letter written by Francis T. Brooke in St. Julien, Virginia concerning the political climate of Virginia in relation to the presidential elections of 1820 and 1824. Brooke describes fractures and shifts in party support, and interprets the reasons for Virginia's support of William Crawford in the election of 1824. The letter is addressed to a Mr. Loring.

An eight page letter from G.S. Meade in Honolulu, Hawaii, to a Mr. Atkinson. Meade was staying in the home of a British Bishop while touring the islands. Along with describing the native Hawaiian people, and the environment of Hawaii in detail, the letter names specific Hawaiians Meade met at a garden party. Meade writes that "to me it is no pleasant sight to see a favored land with its own princess to govern it, actually in the hands of another race, its trade taken by foreigners, its fields tilled, its resources developed: such is the case in Hawaii."

Topics include abolition of slavery, Mexican War, information and reports about the Civil War, Army register for 1858, annual reports for railroads and banks, historical paper on Christ Church in Norfolk, Virginia (1878), Governor Pierpoint's address to "People of Virginia" (May 19, 1865) and more. This collection appears to be material purposely removed from larger bound reports. Many of the topics relate to matters that concern Virginia and other southern states.
