Edward Smith's diary primarily concern his school activities, jobs which he performs around the town, and interactions he has with members of the community. Jean Smith's diary primarily concerns the sickness and death of Edward Smith and her family's reaction to his death. There is also a letter of condolence, dated March 7, 1883, written by Jean Smith's uncle to her father, Oscar Smith. Finally, there are calling cards for Jean Smith and Edward Smith.

This description was provided by the seller and has not been verified: "Original 1927 handwritten diary of Norman Sartain. Norman Sartain was a student at the Palmyra School in Palmer, Texas, in the mid to late 1920s. It has 46 pages (front and back) filled with diary entries through 1928. He lists the times each day that he arrived to school and things his teachers and classmates did." He also mentions that Tompson's Black workers have been picking cotton for him since he was unable to do so himself.
