Abstract Or Scope

These records contain a volume arranged in columns listing the date a person was paid, the name of the individual, the nature of the service or product, and the amount paid. These services concern only the Executive Mansion and the Capitol. There are also several pages related to appropriations for specific projects, including repairs to state cattle pens, the conservatory at the governor's house, and the state court house, and for building urinals, as well as special appropriations for the library and the governor's mansion. Another section lists sales of the "Summary" in 1876. Two newspaper clippings inviting sealed proposals for furnishing coal for state buildings are pasted into the back cover of the volume.

Bond for the Deputy Register for the Kentucky District from the Virginia Land Office, 1792

Abstract Or Scope

This record contains a bond given by Willis Green to Charles Lewis for 10,000 pounds upon Green's assuming the duties of deputy register for the Kentucky District. Baker Ewing, Christopher Greenup, Harry Innes, and John Logan acted as securities for the bond. The document was sealed and delivered in the presence of John Reed, and dated 16 March 1792.

These records contain correspondence pertaining to bids and contracts for services and goods for the Capitol, Executive Mansion, and State Library building, as well as the grounds of Capitol Square. The items or services include coal, wood, and ice deliveries, plants and flowers for the grounds, telephone subscriptions, electric current, elevator mats, gas, and bookbinding. There is also an agreement between the Commonwealth of Virginia and the City of Richmond related to renting out city building rooms for state purposes during the rebuilding and enlargement of the Capital building.

These records contain copies of deeds recorded in the counties of location and probably submitted to the Land Office in cases involving either land disputes or requests for inclusive grants. Information on the outside cover does not indicate the origin of the copy in the Land Office files. Most of the deeds involve land in the western counties of the commonwealth. Abstract Or Scope

These records contain copies of outgoing letters from John W. Richardson, Register of the Land Office, whose position had included the duties of the superintendent of weights and measures since 1867. The records include correspondence related to laws on standardization of weights and measures; maintenance of the grounds of Capitol Square and orders related to Capitol Square; a request to William Redfield, Secretary of Commerce for a copy of a speech; and distribution of information on county and city sealers. A majority of the letters date to 1922.
