This collection includes 20 speeches and copies of letters and papers collected on R. E. Lee's administration of Washington College, 1865-1870.

This collection consists of a typescript of a speech delivered at Martinsburg, West Virginia (January 4, 1905); law license (1895); statements of assets (1904-1917); correspondence, and a legal document for the purchase of real estate (1898-1930).

The collection covers nearly all phases of Hodges' career as economist and public official, from 1908 until 1942, when he retired from the Army Ordnance office. Early materials include reports on Southern agriculture and immigration for various agencies. Hodges' first efforts to reform and streamline Virginia state government may be seen in the minutes and papers of the Virginia Commission on Economy and Efficiency. There is considerable correspondence from his service as aide and director of the Budget under Governors Davis and Trinkle. In 1924, Hodges became the first managing director of the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce; his activities reflected in the official and unofficial correspondence, included development of trade relations with Great Britain and other countries and the creation of the 'Five-Five' (later 'All Virginia') program designed to enhance the state's internal economy, efficiency, and sense of civic pride. Also included are the Chamber of Commerce's publications and numerous addresses by Hodges on trade and economic issues. During this period Hodges continued to participate in the State Prison Board (he served as the president) and as Colonel in the Virginia National Guard; the collection contains his 'Ordnance Notes' and other papers relating to aspects of ordnance and defense preparation in the period between the wars. Hodges' office files as Comptroller include reports, addresses, proposals, and organizations requesting him to speak. A small amount of material concerns his brief service during World War II with the War Department, which was cut short by illness.

This collection of correspondence, ephemera, and genealogical material pertaining to Samuel Jordan Graham. Of particular note are several letters written to Graham by President Woodrow Wilson. Four of them are original and two are photostatic copies. Other correspondents include Charles E. Hughes, and Ray Stannard Baker. The collection also includes clippings, two certificates Graham received from Washington and Lee, genealogy, copies of addresses, and a Court of Claims of the United States acknowleding the Graham's work and service.

This collection contains many materials relating to the South African mission. Dr. Leyburn saved a number of newspaper articles concerning South Africa which are contained herein. Reports on various industries and other aspects of South Africa are included. Also within this collection are an assortment of Dr. Leyburn's speeches, some of which address South Africa. The remainder of the speeches concern the future of Washington and Lee University.

This collection includes correspondence, legal lecture notebooks, speeches, photographs, and ephemeral items (some political) associated with the Tucker family of Virginia. The bulk of the collection relates to the lives and work of John Randolph Tucker (1823-1897) and his son, Henry St. George "Harry" Tucker (1853-1932). Items associated with Washington and Lee University, Tulane University, and Newcomb College are also in the collection. Several files contain pages from the "Johnston Scrapbook." It isn't clear when the scrapbook was created but materials within include original documents and photographs as well as news clippings. There is also correspondence associated with Martha Sharpe Tucker, the second wife of Henry St. George "Harry" Tucker.

Includes letters from the American Civil War period; correspondence of Wilson while he was Congressman from West Virginia, Postmaster General under Cleveland, and President of Washington and Lee University; 3 bound, indexed volumes (not orginals) of Wilson's official correspondence as Postmaster General; 6 diaries; miscellaneous papers and printed speeches; 38 letters from the University of West Virginia collection (microfilm); photograph; correspondence with Isidor Straus concerning politics and events at Washington and Lee; 4 letters dated 1874-1875 from J.A. Lapham to her sister, Amelia H. Scorah. Includes three manuscript diaries, 1862-1863, which were written while Wilson was serving in the 12th Virginia Cavalry. Also includes reviews of books about Wilson, correspondence about Wilson by his biographers and descendants, genealogy information on Wilson's mother, and eight photocopied letters from Wilson to Waitman Barbe dated 1891-1899.Other correspondents include Edward Atkinson, William Campbell Preston Breckinridge, James B.
