Includes letters, letterbooks, and account books of immigrant Francis Jerdone merchant of Yorktown, Virginia; and Hanover County, Virginia. Most of the collection consists of letters, accounts and diaries of the next two generations of members of the Jerdone family, including Francis Jerdone and his sons John, Francis and William Jerdone. The papers concern the management of two estates "Providence Forge," New Kent County, Virginia and "Mount Sterling," Charles City County, Virginia.

A ledger of accounts kept by Nathaniel Burwell (1750-1814) including liquor for Carter's Grove, Carter's Hill, New Quarter, Marsh Quarter, Fouaces Quarter, River Quarter, Mill Quarter, and the Stills. The loose items consist of Burwell's account of the estate of John Bryan (1801-1807), court chits, papers for a suit brought on by Burwell-Tilley heirs, and a letter to a London merchant.

Letterbooks of Robert Carter III (1728-1804) of Nomini Hall, Williamsburg, Va. and Baltimore, Md., containing copies of letters to merchants in London, Glasgow, Leghorn, Madeira, New York City, and Philadelphia, ordering a great variety of goods for his family, slaves, and plantations, and transacting other financial business. Also, letters regarding the estates of Lt. Gov. Francis Fauquier (1703-1768) and Benjamin Tasker of Maryland, Carter's father-in-law; and letters on various subjects to relatives, overseers, and others.

Letterbook, 1771-1781, of Pleasants includes letterrs written to family members, friends and to merchants in Philadelphia, New York and England. Subjects include shipping of tobacco and other crops, buying of goods, the Quaker religion, slavery and its abolition, and the coming and progress of the American Revolution. Includes letter, March 1781, to [Benedict Arnold] and a letter, 22 September 1773, to Archibald Cary concerning the treatment of religious prisoners in the Chesterfield County, Virginia jail. Another correspondent was Anthony Benezet. Also includes a deed of manumission.
