Abstract Or Scope

Nelson County (Va.) Sheriff's Fee Books, 1822-1826. The fee books are a chronological record of fees collected by the sheriff for executing subpoenas, taking bonds, securing writs, and other functions of the sheriff's office. The entries include the name of the person charged with the fee, the date of the charge, the amount charged, and sometimes the style of suit of the court case associated with the fee. The first volume (1822 Nov. 27 to 1824 Nov. 24) is not paged and does not have an index. The second volume (1825. Jan to 1826 Mar.) is paged and includes an index of persons charged.
