Collection consists of "A History of Plant Pathology in Virginia" and biographies of individual plant pathologists written by Professor Emeritus Curtis W. Roane from the Department of Plant Pathology at Virginia Tech. The history covers the period from 1888-1974 and is divided into eras: "The Pre-Alwood Era," "The Alwood Era (1888-1904)," "The Reed Era (1908-1915)," "The Fromme Era (1915-28)," "The Wingard Era (1928-1964)," "The Couch Era (1965-74)," "The Foy Era, (July 1, 1974 to August 30, 1980)," "The Hooper Era (1980-1984)," and "The Moore Era (1984-1997)." This collection contains of a draft of a proposal, "Concept Proposal for Preservation of Aerospace Technology Project (PAT) [Improving Technology Preservation Processes]" written by former NASA aerospace engineer C. Wayne Ottinger and others for what would become PAT Projects, Inc. It also includes an executive summary, cover letter, and slides of proposal presentation. The proposal suggests the need for documenting aerospace history. Primary goals of the project include providing "a lead role in improving and developing processes to identify, prioritize, acquire, preserve, and communicate information and artifacts that constitute Endangered Information in aerospace technology" and creating "a consensus for the establishment of an aerospace history discipline center."

Pletta, Dan H. (Dan Henry), 1903-1996
The Dan H. Pletta Papers includes treatises, transcripts of talks and correspondence dealing with all aspects of the field of engineering, but especially with the role of education in producing a professional engineer, qualifications for practice, the public purpose of engineering, ethics, and whistleblowing. Pletta (1903-1996) was professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Virginia Tech (1932-1972) and department head from 1958-1970.
