Diary of an affluent woman living in Richmond, Virginia in the mid-19th century. Her writings include passages about her children, John and Charles, the books she was reading, and her interest in learning to play the piano and speaking French. Roughly half of the pages are filled with writings. Calculations and records for household expenses are written in the back of the diary. A newspaper clipping of "A Song of Affection" is placed between the pages. This diary provides the rare but sheltered perspective of a wealthy, educated white woman in the antebellum south in the years leading up to and after the American Civil War.

Diary, 1866 January 1-November 30, of [A. E. C. Hughes ?] of Richmond, Virginiaa. which describes visiting, weather, clothing, and a New Years Day Celebration. The volume also includes poetry, and other writings which were copied from other sources.

Scrapbook probably kept by Lyon G. Tyler. Contains newspaper clippings which concern politics especially the campaign of Fitzhugh Lee for governor of Virginia, the General Assembly of Virginia from December 1887-March 1888 as well as clippings concerning the College of William and Mary.

Ephemera includes a devotion booklet; undated printed flyer of football cheers for the Annapolis vs. West Point game; 1893 flyer for the "Memorial Bazaar" in Richmond, Virginia; Ice Mission donation slips, receipts and newspaper articles; and newspaper article on sermon about Southern Valor and Womanhood by Bishop Randolph at the Ladies' Memorial Service at St. Paul's. Handwritten poetry, some original, some not original.
