July 7, 1901 issue of the Farmer and Mechanic newspaper from Raleigh, N.C., Volume XVI, Number 35 with an article on "Ensign Worth Bagley." Financial papers, including a 1904 telephone service contract, YMCA Hall contract for 1891, and life insurance checks/receipts and invoices. Correspondence including an 1893 letter from H.H. Downing to Mrs. Park C. Bagby saying he cannot request anything of the Governor-elect because "it would only incline him to do the opposite," an invitation to see "Mistress Marion Harland" at the Governor's Mansion...in 1892, and a note from Juliet Lee. Ephemera includes a devotion booklet; undated printed flyer of football cheers for the Annapolis vs. West Point game; 1893 flyer for the "Memorial Bazaar" in Richmond, Virginia; Ice Mission donation slips, receipts and newspaper articles; and newspaper article on sermon about Southern Valor and Womanhood by Bishop Randolph at the Ladies' Memorial Service at St. Paul's. Handwritten poetry, some original, some not original.

Papers of the Broome family of Richmond, Virginia. Includes 2 diaries of Louise B. Taliaferro from a 1924 European trip and one diary of an unknown woman from a 1924 European trip. Includes photographs, genealogical material, legal and business papers and correspondence, including letters of Talbot Broome during voyages to South America.

This collection consists of the Burwell family papers of Powhatan County and Richmond, Va. These papers consist of financial papers and correspondence. Correspondence discusses the Civil War, Virginia history, and other Virginia related topics.

The Ephemera Collection contains material primarily acquired for teaching. It includes material in various formats, most of which have been previously published. The collection is currently being processed and new items will be added on an ongoing basis. For this reason, the indicated date range is approximate at this point.

The collection includes letters, contracts, deeds, wills, St. Luke Penny Bank medallions, cemetery plot receipts, plans, blueprints, photographs, birth and death certificates relating to members of the Farrar family of Richmond, Virginia. Daniel James Farrar (1862-1925) had a profound effect on the architecture of the city of Richmond. Daniel followed the example of his father, Joseph who was the son of a free black. Farrar was involved with at least 14 buildings in the 1890's as designer, builder or both. Daniel's siblings included Leah Farrar, and Alma Rachel Margaret Lucas who are represented in the collection. The collection is divided into seven folders containing 90 pieces of ephemera relating to one or another Farrar family member, family real estate transactions, a folder of miscellaneous documents, and 236 photographs of family members and friends, scenes and groups of people.

This collection consists of the papers of the Hall and Moore families of New York, Richmond, Va. and Williamsburg, Va. Includes wills, estate papers, legal and financial transactions, 1810-1915, of Jacob Hall, Sarah Hall and Cunningham Hall; and Bishop Richard Channing Moore, Virginia Moore, Harriet Glenworth Moore, Margaretta Moore and Louise Moore. Contains correspondence, 1854-1876, between Zebulon S. Farland and Ellen Douglas Gordon Farland; letters, 1906-1928, to Margaret (Farland) Hall, from her children, Emily Hall, Channing Hall, Joseph Hall, and John Lesslie Hall concerning education and World War I; and correspondence, 1887-1889, between Margaret (Farland) Hall and John Lesslie Hall, Sr. The collection also includes teaching notes, professional writings, and alumni correspondence with John Lesslie Hall, Sr. Prominent correspondents of Hall include Lyon G. Tyler, Thomas Nelson Page, Joseph Dupuy Eggleston and Basil Gildersleeve. Includes items removed from "The Writing of English"(PE1408 .M38 1929), a book owned by Emily M. Hall.

Papers, 1847-1934, including correspondence, essays, articles, and poems by John Hart, a Richmond book seller and poems, short stories, and a novel by his wife, Katherine M. Hart. The papers of John Hart include letters concerning the sale of books and two letters by James Branch Cabell. The collection includes diplomas and certificates awarded by the University of Virginia to his [father ?] John Hart of Louisa County, Va.

Scrapbooks, 1869-1911, belonging to H. Theodore Ellyson and possibly other family members which contains newspaper clippings, of letters to the Richmond Dispatch by H. Theo[dore] Ellyson, correspondent, mentioning guests and social events and Rockbridge Alum Springs [Rockbridge County], Va., personal correspondence and a few prints.

Genealogical material on the family of John Allan, stepfather of Edgar Allan Poe, of Richmond, Virginia, including typed copy of tombstone inscription of the John Allan gravesite, typescripts and photocopies of correspondence, 1795-1800, of Peachey Franklin, John C. Allan, Nancy Hunter, R. Crawford, and James Garland, and copies of letters, 1986-1987, concerning the genealogical material.
