Three undated flyers publicizing the fifth edition of "The Old Virginia Gentleman and Other Sketches" by Dr. George W. Bagby. Flyer announcing lecture by Dr. George W. Bagby -- "Movis Addams" in the Town Hall, Salem, undated. Newspaper article about the "Miscellaneous Writings" of the late Dr. George W. Bagby, undated. July 7, 1901 issue of the Farmer and Mechanic newspaper from Raleigh, N.C., Volume XVI, Number 35 with an article on "Ensign Worth Bagley." Financial papers, including a 1904 telephone service contract, YMCA Hall contract for 1891, and life insurance checks/receipts and invoices. Correspondence including an 1893 letter from H.H. Downing to Mrs. Park C. Bagby saying he cannot request anything of the Governor-elect because "it would only incline him to do the opposite," an invitation to see "Mistress Marion Harland" at the Governor's Mansion...in 1892, and a note from Juliet Lee. Ephemera includes a devotion booklet; undated printed flyer of football cheers for the Annapolis vs. West Point game; 1893 flyer for the "Memorial Bazaar" in Richmond, Virginia; Ice Mission donation slips, receipts and newspaper articles; and newspaper article on sermon about Southern Valor and Womanhood by Bishop Randolph at the Ladies' Memorial Service at St. Paul's. Handwritten poetry, some original, some not original.

This collection consists of the papers of the Hall and Moore families of New York, Richmond, Va. and Williamsburg, Va. Includes wills, estate papers, legal and financial transactions, 1810-1915, of Jacob Hall, Sarah Hall and Cunningham Hall; and Bishop Richard Channing Moore, Virginia Moore, Harriet Glenworth Moore, Margaretta Moore and Louise Moore. Contains correspondence, 1854-1876, between Zebulon S. Farland and Ellen Douglas Gordon Farland; letters, 1906-1928, to Margaret (Farland) Hall, from her children, Emily Hall, Channing Hall, Joseph Hall, and John Lesslie Hall concerning education and World War I; and correspondence, 1887-1889, between Margaret (Farland) Hall and John Lesslie Hall, Sr. The collection also includes teaching notes, professional writings, and alumni correspondence with John Lesslie Hall, Sr. Prominent correspondents of Hall include Lyon G. Tyler, Thomas Nelson Page, Joseph Dupuy Eggleston and Basil Gildersleeve. Includes items removed from "The Writing of English"(PE1408 .M38 1929), a book owned by Emily M. Hall.

John Thompson Brown Letters, 1828/1857, bulk 1830/1833

Series of letters, bound into a black volume with gold embossing around its edge. The letters span from 1828- 1857 but the bulk of the letters are from 1830- 1833. Brown writes to an assortment of recipients and from varied places such as Petersburg, Virginia, Richmond, Virginia, and Baltimore, Maryland. Topics in his letters include politics, Brown was a member of the House of Delegates for Virginia, love, business, and family affairs. One later letter laments the ill health of his father and the sudden death of his dear brother, Henry. There are also a few letters from J. Wilcox to John Thompson Brown relating to legal and business matters.
