The General Files contain various letters and other materials sent to Whitehurst by constituents and associates and typically include his reply. The subjects dealt with in these files cover the general comments pertaining to local and national matters of interest as well as current legislative issues and Republican Party business. Among the notable issues included in the General Files are files of correspondence covering the Watergate scandal, the Vietnam War, and the oil crises of the 1970's.

This collection includes deacons' minutes, sunday school records, the church register, cemetery records, congregational meeting minutes, and financial records of New Monmouth Presbyterian Church. Also includes some issues of the New Monmouth News/Newsletter. Of particular note is a scrapbook created of the church's earliest records dating back to the pastorates of William Graham and George Baxter.

The papers in this collection are largely focused on the construction of the Sigma Chi house. These go through all stages of construction, from the early discussion of the possibility through completion. Letters as well as financial and legal documents address the topic. There are also many documents related to the administration of the fraternity. Personal items such as photographs and dance booklets add a window on the time period in general. Besides house construction, there are many items of interest related to Sigma Chi, such as invitations to New York alumni events from the 1890s.

This accounting ledger contains records of the Hotinger's Mountain View Farm at Kerrs Creek in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Also included is a 1936 deed tracing of their house, Rice Hotinger's will, a memorial to him, an American Hereford Record: This is to Certify, the Pedigree of EVC PRINCE WALTER 4, Bull, calved March 8, 1963, breeder Charles P. Evans, Clifton Forge, Virginia, and a Railway Express Agency shipper's prepaid receipt from Lexington to Staunton, December 11, 1939.

This small collection contains primarily a series of photographs of Dr. Stuart McCorkle throughout his adult life, ranging from informal prints to professionally made portraits. In addition, the collection originally included copies of books authored by McCorkle and have since been transferred within the Special Collections department. Of great note is the typescript of his autobiography, which provides in great detail, insight into his life and opinion of political matters such as city planning, bureaucracy, and local government.
