Papers, 1765-1922, of the Carpenter family of Rockingham County, Virginia. Includes papers of John Carpenter, William Carpenter and Thomas W. Carpenter. Includes letters, 1837, from Tennessee; and letters, 1851-1853, from Missouri; Confederate currency; accounts, 1810-1817, of C. T. Jones with Doctor John B. Botts; the will of Godfrey Hoge of Philadelphia; and a manuscript recipe booklet, ca. 1800.

Cookbook, circa 1900-1910, of an unknown person from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Includes recipes both cut out of a newspaper and glued into the volume as well as hand written recipes. There are also assorted newspaper clippings unrelated to cooking that have been glued into the volume.

28 ledgers ranging from 1891- 1948 tracing Bosworth's medical practice and house calls in and around Randolph County, West Virginia. In addition, there are bank receipt books, several letters, newspapers clippings, and a scrapbook of news clippings. Most of the ledgers are indexed by patient and household and include notes and relevant charges for his services, including the dispensation of medicines. Bosworth was the County Health Officer for Randolph County for some years and as such recorded a significant amount of birth and death dates for his patients and those in an around the towns of Randolph County. Scattered throughout the ledgers are notes on pharmaceuticals and therapeutic properties of substances used for remedies. He also recorded dozens of recipes for alcoholic beverages ranging from crab-apple wine to beer.

Collection consists of the papers of three Southerners, dating predominantly from the 19th century. John W. Lewis lived in Virginia, Mississippi, and North Carolina and the portion of the collection from this Methodist minister and farmer includes references to religion including sermons, farming, and slavery. Lewis P. Olds was a North Carolina lawyer and politician and the collection includes evidence of his career as well as poetry and short stories he wrote. The remainder of the collection is schoolwork of Sally Latting from 1808 and unattributed photographs and a recipe book.

Collection includes business records, personal papers, photographs, and artifacts of Lucinda Ebersole, writer and editor, pertaining to herself and her bookstore, Atticus Books. Business records and personal papers include a few photographs of Ebersole and others, book release information, book sales and other receipts, pamphlets, and other notes (Boxes 1-3). Also included are two photograph albums, which primarily contain pictures (circa 1980-2000) from events at Atticus Books (Box 6). Other highlights include vintage and modern postcards of West Virginia and the U.S. South (Box 1, Folders 1, 5-7), various recipes (Box 1, Folders 2 and 4; Box 3, Folder 1), a Confederate Georgia bank note (Box 2, Folder 4), a signed letter by actress Eva Le Gallienne (Box 2, Folder 8), and a self-portrait by Ebersole (Box 1, Folder 10). Artifacts include many cooking and baking items, such as rolling pins for different pastas (Box 4), Ebersole's cake box, a pudding mold, painted recipe box, and other personal items (Box 5). Oversize Folder 1 contains a matted folk-art photograph and several poems.

The Maury family papers contains materials documenting the lives of the Maury Family of Virginia, New York City and Liverpool, England from 1777-1977. The collection includes the letters and business papers of James Maury (1746-1840), the first American consul to Liverpool, England, and the letters of his second wife, Margaret Rutson Maury (1805-1882), of Liverpool. Letters, business papers, legal papers, and diaries of the next two generations of the Maury family, including Ann Maury (1832-1890) of Liverpool and New York, Rutson Maury (1805-1882) of Liverpool and New York, and oceanographer Matthew Fontaine Maury (1806-1873) are also included. The collection also contains genealogical material, photographs and cookbooks. Subjects covered include tobacco and cotton trade, general discussions about the Civil War from both the American and British perspective, travel, and gender studies.

Diary of Milton G. Brubaker (b. 1875) for the year 1902. At the time the diary was written, 1902, Brubaker was a Mennonite school teacher in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

This collection of 3,098 pieces, dated about 1764-1916, consists of papers of a family of Smiths who lived at Smith's Cross Roads, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and the Walker family who lived at Brunswick County, Virginia. Most of the papers are dated about 1860-1900. Some of the more interesting works include the following:

Box 1, folders 1-2 consists of manuscript recipes, mainly from the 19 century, and an indexed recipe manuscript volume "Mrs. Garrow family recipe book," 1830-1845. Included are recipes for relishes, jellies, puddings, and cakes; as well as recipes for soap and home remedies (with has several hand-drawn illustrations throughout the volume).
