This collection contains three manuscript notebooks that include verse letters, poetry, notes, and a few newspaper clippings (bulk 1861-1865). One of the volumes is titled "Order Book, 9th Regiment Va. Volunteers, Craney Island." On the endsheets of this book are glued original manuscript signatures of VMI faculty and others, likely clipped from letters. The pages of this volume contain Sara Henderson Smith's writings.

Notebook of newspaper clippings and jottings of Sara Spottswood Royall of Petersburg, Va. Clippings pertain to the Business and Professional Women's Club of Petersburg, Va. Collection includes correspondence, speech, photograph, copies of her obituary and materials relating to Samuel F. Royall's service in World War I in the United States Army. Additions to the collection are the obituaries of Samuel F. Royall, Jr., a Williamsburg, Va. printer, correspondence, clippings, publications, and two yearbooks of the American Association of University Women.

Papers, 1793-1913, of the Scott family of Powhatan County, Va. Includes correspondence and papers, 1793-1832, concerning the estates of John Scott and Edward Scott of Manakin Ferry and papers of Edward Scott, Jr., Mrs. Margaret Scott, E. B. Scott, John D. Scott and Daniel Selden. Letters, 1873-1874, include those from R. J. Hackley aboard a freighter sailing in the waters near Japan.

Papers, 1821-1918, of the See family of Hardy County, W. Va. Includes correspondence, 1856-1877, of Silas R. See and of his wife Anna [or Annie] See. Many of the letters were written by women and some were written by Anna See's sisters living in Pendleton County, W. Va. Several letters, 1861, were written by Silas R. See while serving in the Confederate Army.

Papers, 1826-1857, (including accounts and memorandum books) of various mercantile firms with which Jacob D. Sheldon was associated in Williamsburg, Virginia, such as Jacob Sheldon & Co.; Cole & Sheldon; Sheldon & Maupin; Peachy & Sheldon; Thomas G. Peachy & Co.; and W. W. Webb & Co. Also includes papers of Jacob C. Sheldon and of Roscow Cole. The collection includes accounts with professors and students and staff at William & Mary; with Eastern State Hospital; and with other Williamsburg residents. William & Mary correspondents include Thomas Roderick Dew, Adam Empie, William Barton Rogers, and Robert Saunders.

Papers of Shepherd & Patton, merchants of Columbia, Fluvanna County, Virginia. Shepherd and Patton was a general store that sold groceries, clothing, medicine, building materials, books and more. Collection contains invoices and correspondence from wholesale suppliers located mostly in Richmond, Virginia but also in Baltimore, Maryland, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New York. Handwritten orders and requests on small pieces of mostly notebook paper from local customers, with name and date on reverse.

Receipt, 27 June 1716, signed by G[odfrey] Kneller, for 18 pounds for an annuity plan from the British government. Plan as "an act for granting to Her Majesty new Duties of Excife [excise] and upon feveral [several] imported Commodities, and for eftablifhing [establishing] a yearly Fund thereby, and by other Ways and Means to raife [raise], Nine hundred thoufand [thousand] Pounds by Sale of Annuities, for the Service of the Year 1710, and other Ufes [uses] therein mentioned."
