Papers of West Virginia Congressman Harley O. Staggers. Includes legislative files, correspondence, reports, bills, speeches, resolutions, news releases, and invitations. There are records of the House Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce which Staggers chaired. There are also copies of bills regarding banking, broadcasting, clean air, education, finance, international relations, the judiciary, public works, and trade. (Box 68, folder 22, contains legislative material pertaining to Harpers Ferry.)

Nick Joe Rahall II (b.1949) represented West Virginia's Third District in the United States House of Representatives for nineteen terms. He was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-fifth Congress and served from January 3, 1977-January 3, 2015. From 2007-2011, he was chair of the Committee on Natural Resources. From 1971-1974, he was a staff member in the United States Senate Office of the Majority Whip, and he was a delegate to both the 1972 and 1976 Democratic National Conventions. The bulk of the Congressman Nick Joe Rahall II papers document his 38-year career in the United States House of Representatives.

Arch Alfred Moore Jr. (b. 1923) served two consecutive terms as Governor of West Virginia from 1969-1977 and a third term from 1985-1989. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection for governor in 1988. Previously, he was elected as a Republican to five terms in the United States House of Representatives, serving from January 3, 1957-January 3, 1969. He was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-first Congress in 1968. He died on January 7, 2015, in Charleston, WV. The Arch A. Moore Jr. papers document his service as governor of West Virginia and in the U.S. Congress.

Papers of Helen Louise (Froelich) Holt (1913-2015) relating to her personal, educational, and political activities. Types of material include publications, clippings, correspondence, photographs, and ephemera, among others. The collection is divided into six series: Personal and Political Papers (1912-2015 and undated), Press and Media Activity (1937-2008 and undated), State Government Papers (1955-1960), Federal Government Papers (1960-1984 and undated), Rush Dew Holt, Jr. Papers (1953-2014 and undated), and Addendum of 2021 October 20 (circa 1996).

The collection includes the original diary, records, and family genealogy of Governor James Hoge Tyler (1846-1925) of Pulaski County, Virginia, as well as new transcription with genealogy in print and a CD which incorporates all materials.

This collection contains newspaper articles, papers, photographs, and posters relating to Madison E. Marye's years as a Virginia State Senator. Marye is a veteran of World War Two, Korea, and Vietnam, serving in the U. S. Army from 1944 to 1965. When Marye retired from the Army he had achieved the rank of Major. After leaving the Army, Marye began his political career representing parts of Southwestern Virginia as a Democrat. Marye served in the State Senate from 1973 to 2002.

Papers used by Patrick Carone for his thesis "Governor as a Legislator in West Virginia" (1969). Includes 11 scrapbooks maintained by West Virginia Governor Okey L. Patteson's press officer documenting Patteson's election campaign (1948), subsequent public relations activities as Governor (1949-52), and life after his Governorship (1953-58). The scrapbooks contain clippings, photographs, programs, tickets, and buttons; topics include annual governor's conferences, festivals, football games, Churchill and Wheeling Downs, and the St. Mary's Centennial Festival (1949); photographs are numerous and include an annual Governor's conference in White Sulphur Springs (1950), the Governor's Mansion of WV (1951), and entertainers Frances Langford (1950) and Dagmar (ca.1953). There are also about 21 3-inch reel audio tapes of interviews conducted by Carone in the late 60s with WV politicians, including John E. Amos, Don Eddy, Holt, Thomas Myles, Okey L. Patteson, and Harry Pauley. The bulk of material dates from 1948-69. There are "scattered" clippings and correspondence regarding Patteson from 1947-80 in two folders.

The Rick Boucher Papers, 1968-2017, document his career in the Virginia State Senate, 1975-1982, and in the United States Congress as the Representative of Virginia's 9th District, 1983-2011. The collection consists of press releases, Boucher's writings, mailers he distributed, information about his campaigns and elections, scripts of speeches he gave, news clippings about him and issues he worked on, correspondence, information about grants that he worked on, and audiovisual materials including photographs, VHS tapes, video reels, audio cassettes, DVDs, awards, and digital files. Materials primarily span from the beginning of his political career in 1975 to his retirement from Congress in 2011.
