Collection consists of the papers of three Southerners, dating predominantly from the 19th century. John W. Lewis lived in Virginia, Mississippi, and North Carolina and the portion of the collection from this Methodist minister and farmer includes references to religion including sermons, farming, and slavery. Lewis P. Olds was a North Carolina lawyer and politician and the collection includes evidence of his career as well as poetry and short stories he wrote. The remainder of the collection is schoolwork of Sally Latting from 1808 and unattributed photographs and a recipe book.

Letters, 1902, received by Judith L. C. Garnett. Many concern her writing. Includes printed advertisements, newspaper clippings, and a poetry manuscript. Some concern patent medicines, astrology and there is a book with instructions for palmistry.

Includes manuscripts of poetry written by Julia Selden Grandy who lived in Norfolk, Va. and Baltimore, Md. as well as short stories by Grandy; translations by Grandy of French poetry written by Stephen Mallarme (1842-1898); diaries kept while in school in New York and on trips to Paris and London; published books by Grandy; and scrapbooks. Includes a biography, poem and her obituary.

Two handwritten poetry journals. One kept by Sarah Wood and one by an unknown writer. The unknown writer has a religious theme plus many of the poems are by other authors.

Mss. Acc. 1993.06-01, Series 1 - 4: Papers and photographs of the Edward Myers Lee Family of Williamsburg, Virginia. Lee graduated from the College of William and Mary, as did many of his children. An album has photos of a May Pole in front of the Williamsburg Court House on Duke of Gloucester St. The papers include material for some of his children, particulary Elizabeth Mallory Lee (Mrs. John Walston Henderson), Peticolas Lee (Mrs. Robert Edward Lee), Mary King Lee, and Edward M. Lee. Mrs. Victoria L. Lee, Mrs. Carrie Lee and Richard Henry Lee are also mentioned.

Circular letters, 1829, concerning subscriptions to publications of the Declaration of Independence in French and English to be published by Anderson, Sons & Co., Washington, D. C.; list of subscribers in Richmond, Norfolk, and Portsmouth, Va.; and a poem, "Archbishop Sharpe of York and the Highwayman" [concerning John Sharp.]

Artificial collection composed of original material, handwritten or typed, of addresses, articles, essays, poetry and short stories. Most material was received in the 1930s or 40s.

Mary A. Nevens Autograph Album with her name embossed in gold on the front of a leather book. Includes an index in front of the book which has black and white plates. Most autograph entrees consist of poetry.

The McLeod-Tyler Family papers contains materials from members of the McLeod-Tyler family. Included in the collection are diaries and scrapbooks of Lieutenant John G. Tyler II during World War II, a typed transcript of a Civil War Memoir of Edward Keville Glennan; a commemorative collection of 20 battle pictures, entitled "Advance in the Pacific, New Guinea to the Philipines"; and two high school poetry anthologies, 1969-1970 to which J. Goodenow Tyler III contributed. Also included in the collection is a journal entry describing J. Goodenow Tyler III's Afghanistan Deployment journal entry and correspondence to wife Bee Andrews, later identified as Bee McLeod.
