This collection contains correspondence, publications, and other material kept by Carl R. Dolmetsch, a professor in the Department of English at the College of William and Mary. Included in the collection are publications, a drawing, and a poster related to author H.L. Mencken; correspondence concerning potential visiting lecturers to events in the Department of Engllish; and letters written to Carl R. Dolmetsch by persons who had contributed material to Smart Set magazine as well as letters received by Dolmetsch as chairmanship of the Committee on Arts and Lectures at the College of William and Mary. Prominent correspondents include Faith Baldwin, Jacques Barzun, S. N. Behrman, Rudolf Bing, Kenneth Burke, James Branch Cabell, Padraic Colum, Babette Deutsch, William Golding, H. L. Mencken, Upton Sinclair, C. P. Snow, Louis Untermeyer, Mark Van Doren, Colin Wilson and Edmund Wilson.

Photostats, typescripts, and microfilm of correspondence and papers relating to Lewis Littlepage (1762-1802) diplomat and soldier of fortune collected by Curtis Carroll Davis, biographer of Littlepage as well as correspondence of David with librarians and scholars and his notes concerning Littlepage, his acquaintances and descendants.

An artificial collection of genealogical materials; ca. 1880 to 1993; many of which were probably collected by Dr. Earl Gregg Swem in connection with the publication of genealogical information in the "William and Mary Quarterly, 2nd Series". Includes correspondence, clippings, coats-of-arms, charts, and family histories. Most newspaper clippings are from "The Standard" in Richmond, Virginia from the early 1880's.

The collection contains mostly personal and business correspondence of Jay Winston Johns, Jr., including papers of the Atlas Fuel Corporation of New York, New York and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Lee-Jackson Memorial, Inc.; the Virginia Trust for Historic Preservation; and "Ash Lawn," now owned by the College of William and Mary.

The personal papers of Julia W. Oxrieder include materials related to Williamsburg, Virginia, documents of interest she collected related to her many interests, and personal material about her life and work in Williamsburg. Many items are copies of biographies, newspaper articles, and ephemera documenting local history including folklore, education, Williamsburg people and organizations, African Americans, and other topics.

Includes correspondence and research papers of English professor Reginald A. Kenney relating to Stephen R. Mallory, Confederate Secretary of the Navy. Collection also contains photostats of Mallory's correspondence (location of originals unknown), a few original papers relating to Mallory and an original photograph of Mallory's daughter, Margaret Mallory Bishop (Mrs. Henry Bishop), nd.

Negative photostats of longhand transcripts of the 1704 Virginia quitrent lists for twenty counties. The lists give the names of landowners and acres held, with occasional comments on absentee landholders. Originals located at the Public Records Office, London, England.

Material collected by Dr. Adwin Wigfall Green of the University of Mississippi for preparation of his book written with James W. Webb, William Faulkner of Oxford. Included are letters to Green by Faulkner's daughter Jill Faulkner Summers; Jack Stone, a childhood friend of Faulkner; Dorothy Williams, a friend of Faulkner; and Murry Falkner, William Faulkner's brother; photostats of several letters, advertisements and a speech written by Faulkner; newspaper clippings; and periodical articles.
