Diaries and photograph album, circa 1940s, of Virginia Howell of Richmond, Virginia. Virginia Howell was married to David Edward Howell, who was in the United States Army during World War II. Includes two volumes which contain diary entries, with photographs and letters from Edward Howell attached. Diary entries include information about Edward Howell's training at Camp Lee, Virginia, as well as information about Virginia Howell's daily activities and whether she received mail from Edward. There are also two photograph albums, which include pictures of Virginia and Edward Howell on trips that they took together, as well as pictures of Edward Howell and other military personnel. Mss. Acc. 2011.432 and 2012.054

The collection consists of a photo album filled with photographs and newspaper clippings associated with a visit to Fort Monroe by the Roanoke medical detachment of the 246th Coast Artillery of the Virginia National Guard. Few of the photographs are labeled with more than a date, and some depict travels beyond Fort Monroe. The album also contains signatures, addresses, and thoughts of friends of the owner of the album.

The Virginia Reelers Square Dance Club records (1953-2008; 3 cubic feet) document the history and operation of the Reelers. Club records include correspondence, meeting minutes, event advertisements, and membership lists. Other collection materials include two financial ledgers tracking member dues and pages from six photograph albums documenting various dances and spring festivals.

The photo album (circa 1880s-1910s; 0.15 cubic feet) contains scenes of ships in Hampton Roads including the U.S.S. San Francisco, U.S.S. Brooklyn, the Cape Charles light ship, the Princess Anne, and the St. Louis. There are scenes of the seashore at Virginia Beach and Richmond. Beyond Virginia, scenes include monuments in Baltimore, Maryland, various streets and historical sites in New York City, and the United States Capitol.

The William Couper papers document a portion of the life and career of Couper, a man notable for his research and publications about the history of VMI, Lexington, Rockbridge County, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia history and genealogy, Stonewall Jackson, and Claudius Crozet.

This album contains eleven silver gelatin prints of the train's interior plus one RPPC depicting a machine gun unit. The images of the hospital train interiors include unidentified soldiers and medical staff.
