Inventory contains the papers of Alexander Brown (1843-1906), farmer, merchant and author who lived in Nelson County, Virginia.

Dated 1805-1881. Business and personal letters and papers of Floyd L. Whitehead, Deputy Sheriff of Nelson County. Included are day books and fee books of the county; Confederate tax forms for the listing of cattle and agriculture products on which ten percent, tax-in-kind was to be paid; and broadsides advertising lotteries for the District of Columbia, Monongalia Academy, the Dismal Swamp Company and of the State of Virginia.

Receipt books, 1811-1837, for cash money paid out by Hudson Martin, sheriff, and Nicholas L. Martin, deputy sheriff, of Nelson County, Virginiaa. which includes memoranda, 1826 and 1828, of the birth dates of Jane L. Martin and Henry B. Martin.

The William Massie papers includes letters and accounts belonging to William Massie, a farmer, miller and plantation owner. Massie lived in Pharsalia and Tye River Mills, Nelson County, Virginia. Letters include correspondence between Nathaniel Francis Cabell and Chiswell Dabney. Letters discuss life in Nelson County, agriculture, slavery, milling, and other subjects.
