Manuscript and printed materials relating to the development of railroads in West Virginia, including contracts, letters, wage agreements, monthly situation reports, construction profiles, maps, and speeches. Most of these pertain to the business of the Coal and Coke Railroad Co., Elkins W.Va. Railroad companies represented include Baltimore and Ohio; Charleston, Clendenin and Sutton; Coal and Coke; Greenbrier, Cheat and Elk; Hampshire Southern; Nicholas, Fayette, and Greenbrier; Roaring Creek and Belington; Western Maryland; West Virginia Midland; and West Virginia and Pittsburgh.

A bound typescript titled "War Times in Mountain Cove, Letters of Nancy Hunt to Refugee Friends in York State, 1862-1865," consisting of nine letters written by Nancy Hunt (1820-1891) in Fayette County to Joseph H, and Francis Hopping in Auburn, New York. The letters were transcribed and annotated by Charles A. Goddard.

These records include correspondence, graphs, blueprints, maps and other printed material relating to the coal industry in Tucker County, West Virginia.

This is a collection of blue prints of mining machinery and equipment drawn up for the Thomas, West Virginia company. There are also 19 pictures of mining operations and water falls around Tucker County.

The papers of West Virginia's 16th Governor, Ephraim F. Morgan, largely contain official correspondence originating in or received by the governor's office, 1920-1925. Records types include newspaper clippings, reports, maps, proclamations, speeches, and other items. Topics include the State Police, prohibition, industrial unrest, the Mine Wars in southern West Virginia, public works and roadbuilding, and West Virginia University.

Correspondence, legal, and financial, and miscellaneous papers of a businessman and politician from Roane County, West Virginia, who was elected to the state Senate in 1898 and to the U.S. Congress as a Republican for several terms: 1902-11, 1916-23, 1925-27. His early business activity was in wholesale groceries and the lumber industry. He later engaged in newspaper publishing and owned an estimated eighteen weekly papers. Woodyard's sons continued in their father's business after his death. The correspondence consists of letters received by Woodyard during his later terms as congressman (1920s), as well as personal letters from his family and friends.
