Special Collections is located in Carol M. Newman Library at Virginia Tech. Special Collections includes manuscript collections, rare books, and the University Archives, as well as state, local and historical maps and photographs. Our mission is to collect and preserve unique, historical materials and provide access to them in their original form.

Clifford-Wysor Collection, 1852/1958 2.8 Cubic Feet 2 boxes

Clifford-Wysor family
This collection consists primarily of pocket/folded maps and travel guides from about 1852-1955. In addition, there are personal papers from the Clifford and Wysor families, some of whom are likely responsible for collecting the maps and guides. The personal papers date from 1951-1958.

Blackford, W. W. (William Willis), 1831-1905
Map shows the farm and grounds of Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. It contains field notes and a table of areas, which defines the acreage of various plots. Two hand-written notes are also on the map, one from Blackford in 1881, and one unsigned, but dated 1902.

Mount Vernon Ladies' Association of the Union
Collection consists of forty-one (41) maps from various years and of various sizes. All of these maps directly concern George Washington's home at Mount Vernon. The maps vary in terms of type; a map may be an original, facsimile, or photocopy. Maps also vary in terms of quality, with some in better condition than others. Furthermore, some maps are duplicates of another piece or of its subject. Some maps contain notes concerning what the map displays.

Map shows lots in Radford, Virginia, belonging to Radford Land and Improvement Co. Accompanied by a broadside ("Price-List of Building Lots at Radford, on New River, Virginia, Until January 1st, 1889," under the name of J. Hampton Hoge, land agent) measuring 8 x 10.5", listing the prices of lots for sale. The map is hand-marked, showing lots that have been sold.
