Abstract Or Scope

These records contain an undated list containing three categories. In one is given those grants which were not signed or recorded; in another, those surveys for military officers which the governor refused to sign; and in the third, those surveys stayed by caveats and not patented. The first and third are divided into columns listing the name of the party concerned, the number of acres involved, the county in which the land was located, and the reason the document was not signed. The second section does not contain the column for county location. The majority of the entries are undated. The list is not signed.

Abstract Or Scope

These records contain a list of a dozen entries giving the name of the warrantee, the number of acres allowed, and the number of the warrant. Recipients of these military warrants include Jacob Boughman, Richard Williamson, John Kinkead, Solomon Simpson, Edward Gill, James Ryan, Christopher Best, Christopher Finnie, William Hughs, John Johnston, Evan Shelby, and Arthur Campbell. There is one entry for a warrant which was partially completed, issued to Dr. John Briscoe.

Abstract Or Scope

These records contain a list recording in columns the names of those counties formed by 1861, including the date of formation and the name of the original county from which the new county was formed. Those counties which became part of West Virginia in 1863 are marked by an asterisk, although two counties which remained in Virginia are marked as becoming part of West Virginia.

These records contain exchange warrants Nos. 2107-2114 are described on this list signed by Charles Blagrove. Columns list the individual to whom the exchange warrant was issued, his place of residence, the number of the warrant given in exchange, the acreage, and the description of the warrant exchange which includes to whom it was issued, on what right, the warrant number, the acreage, and the date. Item covers the period from 1810 Feb 1 to 1810 Aug 1.

The record contains a list divided into eleven columns, all blank except for the first three. The number of the warrant, the name of the person to whom it was issued, and his rank are recorded. However, the columns noting the regiment or corps in which he served, the date he entered service, the term of his service, and the date he resigned or was discharged for the first, second, and third enlistments, or "engagements," are blank.

Abstract Or Scope

These records provide a list of officers on continental establishment, providing each officers' name, rank, and in some cases the branch of service. The names are arranged alphabetically by the first letter of the surname. A comparison of this volume with published sources indicates that the list is composed entirely of Virginians. Further identification of this volume has not been determined. According to a notation on the inside cover, 35 names were sent to a Major P. (name illegible) on March 23, 1814.

These records contain columns giving the name of the soldier, the number of acres to which he was entitled, his rank, his length of service, the date of this certificate, and at times in a column for remarks, the number of the warrant and the name of the warrantee. The list was signed on November 12, 1818, by Thomas Miller, clerk. The soldiers noted on the list include John Walden, William Poe, William Davis, John Davis, John Casy, John Story, William Cardwell, Shadrick Pierson, Berryman Brown, Robert Powell, Thomas Bates, Peter Cockrell, Thomas Sneed, John Brownley, Henry Brown, John Smith, Thomas Smith, Lewis Powers, Thomas Gains, and Charles Nial.

Columned list recording the number of acres, the book and page reference, the number of the survey, the county in which the land is located, the final grantee, and the date of the grant. Most of the grants were issued to Henry Banks, including lands in Ohio and in Boutetourt, Greenbrier, Harrison, Henrico, Jefferson, Kanawha, Monongalia, Monroe, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockbridge, Russell, and Wythe counties.

Abstract Or Scope

These records contain lists of judgements on caveats passed down by the Supreme Court for the district of Kentucky during the March, June, and September terms in 1785, and the March, June, and November terms of 1786. The lists vary in format, but they all contain in either column or paragraph form the names of the disputing parties, the number of acres under dispute, the county in which the land was located, and the judgment rendered in each instance.
