There are also letters from throughout his career, including letters from members of state and federal governments, other academics, and business leaders.

Letter, 1862 February 26, between Robert H. Crist, a private in the 21st Indiana Volunteers, to his father, P.M. Crist, during the American Civil War. Crist writes about camp life around Fort Monroe, Virginia, soldiers sleeping in stables, being able to see rebels across the river and observing there are no towns there except camps.

Two letters relating to the Robertson family of Virginia. The first letter is by Mary Lucinda Robertson (1833-1921); the daughter of Charles Henry Robertson, Mary was raised on the 2000 acre Pineland plantation and attended Ann Smith Academy in Lexington, Virginia. The second letter was sent to Miss Dora L. Judd of Williamsburg, VA. She was Charles Robertson's second wife. The letter is dated 1846 and was sent from Westhampton, Mississippi.

One letter written by Robert Stevens, Jr. to his parents in Newport, Rhode Island concerning an attempted slave revolt and a devastating storm in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 19, 1812. The first part of the letter concerns a plan by a white man, with the help of several slaves, to set fire to the town, rob the banks and inhabitants, and murder those that stood in their way. The attempt was discovered before it was carried out and those involved were taken to prison. The rest of the letter concerns a wind storm that destroyed houses, trees, fences, and caused massive flooding. A transcript of the letter provided by the seller can be found with the letter.

Letters written to Shirley Ann Crook of Baltimore, MD. A majority of the letters were written by Sergeant Roger Lee Hicks, two were written by Petty Officer Third Class Don Forgan and one letter was written by Pvt. Max E. Hilb. The dates of the letters range from February 1967 and October 1969 for Don Forgan's letters, April 1969 for Max Hilb's letter, and from December 1969 to May 1970 for Roger Lee Hick's letters.
