Three letterpress copy books of the Fletcher Family. The books are written by a woman, possibly from Georgia. The writer is an ancestor of the donor, Dr. John S. Fletcher. Partial signatures suggest Joan and Hownick.

The collection includes correspondence primarily between 1890-1908, of Flora (Adams) Darling, concerning the founding of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General Society of Daughters of the Revolution, National Society, and the United States Daughters of 1812. Correspondents include Edward William Bok, Jessie Benton Fremont, William Archer Rutherfoord Goodwin, George Frisbie, John Tyler Morgan, William Mahone, Alexander Hamilton Stephens, and Lyon Gardiner Tyler.

This collection contains four letters written by Private Frederick C. Hale, Company F., 118th New York, to his parents during the the American Civil War. The first letter, dated 1864 July 1, described the rebels sending artillery into the camp, the railroad was completed and in working order, and they could tell the time from a clock tower in Petersburg 100 yards in the distance. The second letter, dated 1864 August 11, described the rebels tyring to counter mine the Union's trenches in Petersburg, surrender of Fort Gaines and Battle of Mobile Bay, and Hale giving up smoking. The third letter, dated 1863 May 2, described a battle with the rebels near Suffolk, Virginia and the fourth letter, dated 1864 May 29, described an account with the United States Colored Troops (USCT) at the Battle of Wilson's Warf.

The Gamaliel Lyman Dwight and Sarah Helen Whitman Papers contain three letters written by Gamaliel Lyman Dwight to Sarah Helen Whitman during the Civil War (1861-1865). In his first letter to Whitman, Dwight mentions a man who knew Edgar Allen Poe, a former romantic interest of Whitman. The remainder of the correspondence includes Dwight's impressions of Camp Winfield Scott, a tent encampment near Yorktown that served as the headquarters of Union General George B. McClellan.

This collection contains the family papers of members of the Grigsby and Galt Families. Mary Blair Grigsby married William W. Galt in 1881. The collection contains papers of various members of the Grigsby family, particulary Hugh Blair Grigsby who was a historian and Chancellor of The College of William and Mary and his son, Hugh Carrington Grigsby who lived his entire life at the family farm, Edgehill, in Charlotte County, Virginia.
